July 18, 1969 -

Senator Ted Kennedy drives drunk off a bridge, escaping the car underwater and leaving Mary Jo Kopechne to die.

Kennedy failed to report the accident until the following morning, sealing Kopechne's fate.

Kennedy and Kopechne had attended a party earlier that day. It cannot ever be confirmed that the notorious drinker, Kennedy, was drunk at the time, due to the time between the accident and the reporting of it.

---

Now this is an innocent bystander. Someone needs to work on their thread titling skills.

It's satire, not PL fodder. I'm making a point about other threads currently in the lounge.

If other threads with, how shall we say it, "rigged" titles are in the lounge, this just balances this out.

I don't hide that fact. What I'm saying is that if the title of the other thread was simply, "VP Cheney Accidentally Shoots Hunting Buddy" that it would be more appropriate in the lounge. Titling it the way it is titled makes it political and therefore loaded when placed in the lounge.

It's funny that the thread title in the PL is more accurate and less loaded than the one in the lounge.

This isn't fire. I chose a story that is nearly 40 years old, intentionally.

This fire burned out long ago.

Indeed, that's why you should have posted it in the *other* lounge. The political lounge. It's not just there because it looks pretty.

Jeez, can anyone on this board read anymore. The point to posting this in the Lounge is that Lounge threads should have NON-POLITICALLY LOADED titles.

The other, similar thread does not match that criteria.

But, it was being negative about a Republican, so we'll give it a pass.

I think the entire point you're getting sh!t for this is because this is cluttering the Lounge with another dumb political thread.

Both threads, as in: this thread as well. You know this and yet you post here and then congratulate people for getting "it" that you should have posted it in the pol lounge when *you* actually posted it here knowing that it wasn't the right place waiting for someone to tell you that it wasn't the right place and you should have posted it in the pol lounge, something which you knew all along.. Perhaps because the first thread could have been posted in the regular lounge by mistake - or was even borderline non-political. It would have been more prudent to put it in the political lounge, of course and a thread on the subject already exist there. As well you most likely know.

Your thread on the other hand is undeniable political and intentionally posted in the wrong lounge. You have admitted as much. That would explain why the community is giving you more heat than you think you deserve IMO.

cheers

I live through that heinous crime. Ashamed that he is my Senator. The Democrats can't really say much about Cheney because of Kennedy.

I think that it is very much a topic for the lounge. Current events.

Very sad that the victim has now suffered a heart attack and returned to intensive care.

It is time for prayer.

OMG, the liberals are coming out of the woodwork to bitch about this thread - yet they didn't have a problem with the Cheney thread. So predictable.

I just checked in. I knew from the title and without venturing in that it was meant as a way to comment on the other thread which should have been more appropriately posted in the PL.

If the other thread stays, so should this one. If the other thread remains unlocked, so should this one.

Well, technically, the Political Lounge was created as punishment for conservatives after Dubya was elected.

The person behind its creation was a staunch liberal.
