As the headline said, has anyone here have any experience with FlyNet? I'll be on a 13-hour flight with it. I wasn't going to take my PB with me, but now I'm reconsidering.

I have used it when flying from Germany to Japan. Works well and pretty cheap. They did have a special pricing deal a few weeks ago - you had to go to their web site and simply enter your details - so maybe trawl around their site.

The system is turned on at the same time as the in-flight video entertainment system which is 30 minutes into the flight. Connecting up was the usual wireless process. Data speeds were perfectly adequate for normal web browsing, but not fast enough to video iChat. I had hoped for a gee-whizz connection witht my wife and work colleagues on the ground. I could do an audio chat OK.

Hm, remember that Jobs keynote a while back where they did a video iChat from a Lufthansa flight?

Yep, I can attest to it working... I'm typing this message from 34,000 feet over Norway on my way from Copenhagen to Seattle on Scandinavian airlines.

Here's the report from DSLReport's Speedtest

I've read that the performance takes a hit as the number of users rises, and Wifi is free on today's flight, so ymmv.

Speed is ok. Certainly not fast but certainly bearable/usable for casual surfing.

Woah, that's cool! Enjoy your peanuts!

But if this ever changing world, in which we live in, makes you give in and cry, say "live and let die."

Very cool indeed.

Since we're on the topic. what airlines offer this service these days ? i heard Swiss Air, KLM and Emirates were also going to start but that was ages ago.

My god. First we had war driving, where people could latch onto open wifi networks whilst driving around in their car.

Now they can do it in the skies?

I hate flying, especially long haul. Nothing to do except watch crappy movies or read. Which gets a bit boring after a couple of hours. If I could fit a day's work into otherwise wasted time I'd be a very happy man.

Hmmm, Kaput is the best way to describe it. The internets was broken. No wi-fi on the plane (luckily I took a sleeping pill with me as a backup).

A buddy of mine used it while flying from Germany to LA a couple of months ago. We even got video iChat to work for a while. Pretty cool stuff.

Have you been touched by his noodly appendage?

If your plane actually has it. Hopefully, it'll be on during the flight back. Still, lots of hype and no results.

Actually, LH purchases the Connexion System from Boeing. Other airlines also feature the service. So, don't give LH too much credit.
