Just started happening, after the most recent security update, I believe.

Luckily I can just restart Finder, but I'd like this problem fixed.

Happens to any file of any kind.

Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like something important on your system got pwned. Hopefully this isn't a widespread issue caused by the Security Update. Have you trashed Finder preferences files?

What does the All Messages log in Console say when this happens?

Try re-installing the combo updater, using archive and install.

Well the problem basically cleared itself up.

I had tried a restart before, but last night I thought maybe shutting down my iBook for the night would help, and I was right. Today, everything works.

I just hope it stays that way. Thanks for the help though.
