I have a couple Lodge brand cast-iron pans and they recommend bacon fat (or lard/shortening, which is processed animal fat) for seasoning their cast-iron pans.
The pans I bought recently are from their Logic line of pre-seasoned cast-iron pans. The pre-seasoning they do is supposed to be the equivalent of 20 regular home seasonings with lard/shortening. However, I have found i still need to re-season it if I have burnt something in the pan. (The way to get something burnt in the pan out of the pan is to fill the pan with water, bring it to a boil, and then give the contents a quick, brisk scrub the loosen the burnt-on food.)
NOTE: Having something burn on the pan is different from the normal build-up of food residue that occurs when using cast-iron pans. In general, if you cook something in fat or oil it will not burn but simply leave a residual layer of fat on the inside of the pan. When this occurs, clean up consists of wiping out the pan with a paper towel or ever-so-slightly damp cloth followed by pat drying the pan with a clean, dry paper towel. Regular washing of a cast-iron pan, like you would do with regular copper or stainless-steel pans, is BAD.

Oatmeal, or cold cereal and milk, with a banana. Heavier stuff on the weekend.
