My Rev C 12" powerbook has an extremely tight hinge. It has just started occuring in the past few weeks - before now it had very fluid motion

Now when I first move it there's a snapping noise due to the tightness, but once it's in motion it's fine until i stop again

Mine's been doing that for the last week as well. Not sure what to make of it, but I doubt it's anything serious.

my revB has been doing this some recently (not alot mind you). Doesn't seem to do it as much as it did about a week ago though. Perhaps just a result of recent climate/weather changes?

I've the same problem, I'm actually afraid to open it, or push down the screen a bit more, as it makes quite some noise. I think I'll pick up AlGlide next time I can. I hope that makes a difference.

mine's tight since i got it (about 2 1/2 months).
so, am careful with it.
still, better than a loose hinge (which happened to my pismo, and...sucks)

The weather gets cold so that alumium shrinks but plastics does not. That's what makes a powerbook hinge tight. The symptom get worse as the wintor comes.

Well, weather may have an influence, who knows. But I really think it's the hinge: I was in the Apple Store and one of the 12" made a groaning noise when I moved the lid. The salesperson didn't seem concerned, but I told him I didn't think it was a good advertisement to have it out on display. I don't go back regularly enough to check if it's still out on display.

I get this too, I played with the screws but I think it's not a big deal. Just horribly annoying during meetings and what not!

same problem here, if you move it back and forth quickly, it fixes it temporarily, it doesnt happen unless its hot usually.

There are many useful posts on the Apple site regarding this problem.
