Hello,

i would like to know if anyone else is experiencing this problem: when i dial into my ISP (using Internet Connect, or others), i don't hear any noise from my modem!

YES, i do have the option to have sound ON in the Network pane of he System Preferences. I tried it with it on ON and OFF, and i didn't hear any sound.

does anyone know how to fix the problem? Or should i report it to Apple.?

thankx!

if this weren't the OS X forum, I would say you have to go to the sound control panel and select internal modem for the 'Sound In' category. This problem always gets me in OS 9 because I don't use the modem but twice a year. (I have X in my hands, but haven't installed)

isn't it amazing how little stuff like this bring down the whole 'fun level' of OS X?

right now, their only 2 bad things i can say about X: still can print (Epson SC600 w/ USB Adapter Kit), this problem

But... I've got an answering machine for free!
The modem (iMac Rev. A) is answering all incoming calls!! HELP!

Any suggests?

This is a known problem, see http://til.info.apple.com/techinfo.nsf/artnum/n106162

V frustrating. In the Public Beta what was even more so was when your connection was dropped PPP Connect never seemed to notice and happily continued to show outbound activity. Haven't yet tested to see if this is fixed in Final.

Also, if there are any hackers reading this, I want my flashing Apple (in the upper left-hand corner) back!!! Is there a way to do this...probably not.

The connection speed is displayed in the connection log (I think that's it's name) from the view menu (again I think). Sorry don't have OS X with me.

Cheers

I think it would be really cool if Internet Connect's Dock icon were modified to indicate not only an active connection but send/receive levels, like the panel does. You know, those two little up-and-down bars, like the EQ on your stereo? I think that'd be sweet. In fact, I may just go and suggest that to Apple right now.

I haven't noticed the sound problem, as I usually have my modem set to No Sound (modem noise is terribly grating to me. If I go to hell, there will be nightly concerts of modem noise). I have noticed you can't move the Internet Connect panel when dialup is in progress. You can go to other apps and work just fine, but that panel won't budge. Very strange.
