Speaking of former glory:

Tis a great great day in history of MacNN when we can link pedophiles, llamas and alpacas, waffles wearing hats, david hasselhoff, and Jean Claude all in one thread. This is surpassing zombo.com in terms of possibilities.
And chris v even coined the awesome term "llamasphere."

I think I pinpointed EXACTLY where the slide happened. One of my finer moments, if I do say so myself.

It starts out kinda slow, but really picks up near page 10.

I'd thought of the Great Abe Decomposition a while ago, but I couldn't remember which thread it happened in.

That was SENSATIONAL!!!

Yup, nailed it. A blaze of glory, that one.

You know, it kind of warms the cockles of my heart to see ol' WD's signature, still there, hosted on my .mac account, after all these years.

got his panties way too knotted about images that were like 641x481.

to the point that he'd delete the image altogether, instead of leaving a link to the image which was often relevant to the thread.

i didn't really get a kick out of how he stickied one of his own threads he was using to start a site about printer and paper compatibility in the peripherals forum while he was going nuts deleting (not merging) iPod threads in the same forum just around the time of the minis dropping. the whole thing seemed like an abuse of power to me.

hell, it's still stickied

I love all of you, and besson3c quit bogartin' the paint thinner.
On a side note, in real life I'm not quite the babbling acid casualty I make myself out to be on occasions. Im just a very weird, quiet, little dude and I've never once regretted becoming a patron of this fine establishment

Most definitely the "Foreign Agent" meme. This has propagated in other places...."Fruit baskets are for foreign agents only."

Anyone remember the chick who wrote the alien cow stories and then disappeared...deleting all of the posts in case someone ripped her story off? BEB was a big fan, I remember. Was it Helen?

Wanna bring back some lounge glory? Get max, l'gnorante and (hey, stars could align) Fat Barry back. Make DH the emperor -- pay him to bring back the audio locks (good times, good times). Round it out with xi, analogika, the chrises, boots, pandi, (insert your favorite wit here) -- anybody really who hasn't managed to make a douche of themselves in Pol/War (you know who you are / actually you don't, do you?). Or people of that quality. Really, anybody who can laugh at themselves.

Or more chicks. That would liven this place up. Real ladies, I mean, not just pictures of boobs.

Speaking of laughing at yourself, this was a good time.
Gives me warm fuzzies rereading all the lerv. Now, where did I put that block of Limburger? I hear it goes well with Devil Bunny.

And here is one of my favorite rants. I wish LE hadn't lost the "Some shitfish stole my car radio" rant when the BBQ met Davie Jones.

Keeping The Lounge in top form requires time & effort, things that are severely lacking these days. The originality of the topics is gone, replaced with the usual rehashed celebrity & political news of the day, why bother participating?

Maybe Dakar is right. Maybe there's no way to bring this place back to what it used to be. It's been bugging me for about a year now. Instead of being funny, people are more inclined to personally attack people. 'Hood had to actually come in here and remove all the derailing from this thread yesterday, which more or less proves my point. How about just backing off and try to make this place into a community again instead of a cess pool of personal crap?

Did some one say crap?

Man, after last night's frozen pizza and the big breakfast I had at the club this morning, there was no safe place for my wife in the house...
"Everything's so clear to me now: I'm the keeper of the cheese and you're the lemon merchant. Get it? And he knows it.
That's why he's gonna kill us. So we got to beat it. Yeah. Before he let's loose the marmosets on us."

Liberal use of "ignore" is recommended, either technology aided or otherwise. The personal attacks only work if you take the bait. Seriously. It's always been clear who the a$$hats are, and it was always clear when someone got suckered into a vortex with them. I'm particularly guilty of being weak-willed on this count.

This place can be what you want it to be. There are enough people here to have serious and enjoyable discussion, so long as you don't let the weasels hijack the ideas. All it will take is a large enough group to rise above the crap.

I know that sounds like a lecture, but hey...I'm a teacher. It's in my nature. My question for you is "Do you really want a better place?" Here's a suggestion:

1) Ask questions that are on your mind or share things that you think are cool.
2) If you aren't interested, leave the thread alone. Don't snipe at it, just don't bother with it.
3) If someone does snipe, don't engage with them. Report the post and then ignore it.
4) Reread your responses twice. Once as you (for spelling, etc.), and once as the audience...it's amazing how often something that is worded ambiguously turns a thread into an unintentional flame war. Edit out personal attacks; the fact that you wrote it down helps at least vent the frustration. Don't make the rest of us share your frustration.
5) If I've said it once, I've said it a million times: There is no number 5. We tossed him overboard and banned his IP.
6) Rinse and repeat.

If Heaven has a dress code, I'm walkin to Hell in my Tony Lamas.
