Delivery of Airport Express is delayed in the UK, Apple sent this to me today after having a ship date of the 15th July for over a month!.

Dear Apple Store Customer,

Thank you for ordering the new Airport Express!

We are very excited about the response to this great new product!
Unfortunately we cannot meet the previously estimated ship date for this
product and we now expect to ship your order by July 30th, 2004.

If you would like to track your order, please visit our Order Status website at
https://store.apple.com/Your/WebObje...rStatusEurope.
Once your order has dispatched, you will receive a Shipment Notification email, which
will enable you to track your order.

Your business is very important to us, and we apologise for any inconvenience
that this change may cause.

Thank you for shopping at the Apple Store.

Kind regards,

The Apple Store Team

So now people are recieving them here is a question I hope someone can/will answer. My setup would be.

-An Airport Express station connected to a LAN and a stereo
-An iBook with Airport Express
-A G4 Server with an airport CLASSIC card

Can I stream music from the server to the stereo through the Airport Express station while using it as internet access for the iBook?

Can I use the same set up but with music from the radio stations (Airport Express -> Server -> Airport Express -> stereo) while still surfing on the iBook?

That will all work. You're using the ethernet as a WAN port, and it will serve as a router to your iBook and G4. You will be able to stream from them while surfing the web at the same time, radio stations too.

I'm getting my order of 2 tomorrow. I thought they only work with Airport Extreme cards and only extend the range of Airport Express or Basestations?

I have a Linksys 54G router from about a year ago and I cant see myself paying $200 for a ABS. Thats why I got 2 to extend my range. Also for when I travel (my company puts us up at the W exclusively) it will be cool to finally have Internet access on the bed in the hotel!

Regular non-extreme Airport cards will work. You need at least one somewhere to set it up, but after that you can stream music to the Extreme through any router.

Common, not even you can be that dense.
"only extend the range of Airport Express or Basestations?"

So you are saying you can use your express to extend your wireless range using your linksys. Wow, you should tell Apple the secret!

"Question: Can AirPort Express wirelessly extend ("repeat" or "rebroadcast") the network of a third-party access point?

Answer: No. But it can wirelessly extend the range of a WDS network that is being hosted by an AirPort Extreme Base Station or another AirPort Express."

Or did you think we would be excited over the fact that your iBook can connect to a linksys

His question was in TWO parts, the first you completely ignored.

I thought they only work with Airport Extreme cards and only extend the range of Airport Express or Basestations?
To which you wrote:

Yup, that's right.
No, you're WRONG.

And I never said anything about extending the range of my Linksys.

Do us all a favor and fess up when you obviously misread the question.

I checked at the Hartford, CT store (West Farms Mall) today. They don't have any, expect to start filling preorders in about a week or so and to have units on the shelf in two or three weeks.

Thanks. A followup:

Will it make a difference if I used a PCI 802.11 card instead of an Airport Card? I just discovered its near impossible to get an old Airport Card.

Try eBay. You need at least one genuine Apple-brand Airport card on your network somewhere to do the initial setup of the base station, but after that you can use any kind of wireless router or 802.11b/g PCI card.
