hey guys,
i was wondering what temperature your powermacs run at...
i just isntalled my replacement powersupply and fan, and cleaned off the thermal paste and put some silver compound between my 867s and my heatsink.
right now, im running at 115.5F/46.4C and rising...
how hot/cool is that for MDD or other powermacs?

My Dual 1GHz MDD with the Apple replacement fan kit is currently running at 131.3 F in a room that is 71 F.
It typically runs about 60-62 over the ambient temperature.
I added one modification to the Apple fan kit. After installing the kit, I noticed the CPU fan speed would fluctuate quite a bit.
There's been a lot of talk about modifications on the G4noise.com forums. One guy added a deflector to increase the airflow over the heat sync. It worked for him.
I made a deflector out of a piece of card weight paper. It is tucked in between the CPU fan and where the wires go to connect it. The deflector goes all the way back to the rear of computer, isolating the hard drives from the heat sync.
Now, if the room temperature stays below about 78 F, the CPU fan never speeds up.
--------
I have read that temperatures up 155 F is not unusual. Your computer will shut down on it's own if the CPU gets too hot.

16C.. in the Summer? I don't think a heatsink + fan can bring the G4 (7400) lower than room temperature or you have an air-conditioning on and blowing toward the PowerMac.
My Dual 1.25 no higher than 55C or 131F under 80F room temperature (aka basement).
I always load the CPU with SETI@Home.

Hmm. I have got a G4/400 too. I replaced the two fans (power supply and the big one cooling pci slots and cpu). Very quiet now - I can even sleep in this room :-) My G4 is running 24/7 at 28 Celsius (don't know what this is in Fahrenheit). I don't really know if TempMonitor shows the correct temperature because it seems very low - just a little bit warmer than the room temperature. But I guess it's just a cool machine ;-)

I'm curious to know how hot my cpu is. Do I need any special hardware or something?
How do I find out my cpu temp?

This computer is based on the 'PowerPC 7450' processor. The CPU manufacturer has disabled the Thermal Assist Unit on this chip, so it is not possible to report temperature information.
A feature check executed by the Mach kernel additionally confirms that this processor is not capable of returning temperature values.
A scan of your hardware indicates that there seems to be no alternative temperature sensor available that can communicate with the operating system.
Unfortunately, your hardware does not support temperature monitoring so this application cannot be used.
Looks like I need special hardware.

Infact, I have a heater on in here.
It's winter, in Australia.
My CPU has always run cool.
