Yeah and by then I'll be burned out of the game and have 100% completion. Shoot, KCrosbie should have 100% by Sunday. The only achievement he has left is Party Animal.

If so, again, props to Halo, as their CSHD beats out every other game out there.
Not that I know of. I seem to come across loads of skaters recently, who then kill me. It the killcam, I haven't noticed my jerkiness. Or theirs.
Ironically, even if you have a good ping result (for example when you are the host) you can have really shitty lag, since (IIUC) the worst connections are compensated for. I tend not to play TDM if there are less than 10K people on. 7/8K for Hardcore TDM. Since its more tactical, you notice the lag a lot less in hardcore matches. People don't run and gun, if you know what I mean.
What is strange is that sometimes I can have really good, fluid matches with quite a few North Americans and another match full of Europeans can be unplayable.

Well, the longer I play the more I notice that the killcams do not mirror reality from my view. Killcams show people firing earlier and shots that look like they hit on my screen whizzing by.
And while we're talking about host, I went 21 - 2 in a game this weekend, and by next game I noticed I was most definitely hosting the matches.

Killcams are shite. All they do is let you know where that creep was hiding when he shot you. Except for Hardcore matches that is. When I was a CoD2 admin we never used to have killcam on our servers.
Good score. TDM? I don't know how the matchmaking works. I think that I read somewhere that you could end up with people of a similar skill level somehow. How this works when there are only a few on, I don't know. I also don't know how to find out if you are hosting matches or not, but I've quit sometimes and it immediately said that the host had quit.

From a strategic standpoint, I think they're terrible for snipers, but that's about it. But as someone who gets frustrated/pissed once your deaths start coming frequently and superficially unexplainable, its a bit of a boon from that standpoint. Of course 80% of my WTF? deaths seem to be hail mary grenades. It's really a detestable aspect of the game sometimes.
Hosting isn't too easy to spot, when I and only a few people have 4 bar connections (which is suspicious enough as I rarely get 4 bars), and I'm the only one with a good k/d (let alone an exceptional one) I know whats up. Thats the thing about latency, where suddenly I was losing this 50/50 battles, suddenly I was winning them, another sign. It's good to be host.

Being host definitely has an impact on my score. Most of my best matches came from either my brother or me being the host. Also, it seems, to me at least, when you're the host, killcam is much closer to what you see in live action.

I imagine you're prone for latency in Hawaii too, so host is all that much more important.
Glad you concur on the killcam.

Its not as bad as you might think - I live 2 miles away from the main hub for all of Hawaii, coupled with the fact that I work for the provider, so I have the highest available connection for next-to-nothing in terms of cost.
For example, when I played WoW, the average person in my guild (all from Hawaii) had around 250ms, I averaged around 80ms.
Still, being host does make a huge difference.

Infinity Ward helping design Modern Warfare 2 controller
Infinity Ward community guru Robert Bowling issued an interesting tweet this afternoon -- one that suggests the developer is consulting (with who we don't yet know) on a Modern Warfare 2 controller. Before you start envisioning a fully functioning M4 carbine to go with your night vision goggles, know that the pad surely sounds of the nothing-too-fancy variety. Specifically, we know it'll have analog thumbsticks, as Bowling asks followers of his Twitter feed whether they prefer concave (innie) or convex (outie) stick-tops.
We asked Bowling about the controller, and while he couldn't offer any solid details, he did confirm it "isn't being manufactured by [Infinity Ward] or [Activision]," and that the call for votes was meant to "get the opinions of the people who will actually be using it to help settle a debate." You can cast your vote by sending a tweet to @fourzerotwo. (We went with "concave.")

Xbox 360 Top Live Titles (based on UU’s)
1 Halo 3
2 Call of Duty 4
3 Call of Duty: WaW
4 Gears of War 2
5 Battlefield 1943
Modern Warfare managed to sneak past World at War this week. That's nothing short of amazing. And a good omen for MW2.

What did I say about more maps needed for CoD4 ?
The two map packs released to date for Treyarch's Call of Duty: World At War have together sold over 4 million copies over Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, says Activision.
The stats came as the publisher announced a third map pack for the game, slated to launch in August. Map Pack 3 will feature three multiplayer maps titled "Battery," "Revolution" and "Breach," plus one new Zombie map called "Der Riese."
IIRC it was 800 points for the maps. Thats about £6/9€. Are you listening Infinity ???????

CoD4 released a map pack over a 15 months ago. WaW released its second one last month. Who just beat out the other in activity?
It ain't the maps. (They're over-priced anyway). You don't want DLC, you want as much crammed onto retail as possible.

Well you know gaming more than I do Dakar, but as a pure-blood capitalist, I'd have thought that maps for popular FPSes were easy money.
Even if CoD4 is more popular, Treyarch is still making loads of cash from maps. Remember maps are a piece of p1ss to make - OK they were on the PC for CoD2, dunno about Xbox development. You could hire spotty comp sci undergrads to develop hundreds over the summer. Then get the better devs to cut this down to ... 12. And then sell a map per month. Say that half the people who bought the Treyarch maps buy your new maps once a month ~12 million downloads. Thats some serious money.

Yeah, you're missing the big point: How does any of that help me?
It doesn't. They need to cram more 12 maps onto the disc.

I was trying to be funny and failing. Sorry.
I dunno, I'm not against DLC like maps for CoD4 or add-ons like Fallout 3 has. They are both good games that could stand on their own without DLC. What I don't like is DLC that one has to pay for to make a game good. I haven't personally come across this yet (a relative youngster in Xbox gaming) but from forums and game sites it does seem to happen.
What would be even better of course is to have good DLC for free. This I suppose is covered by the mods to for example, CoD4 and CoD:WaW on the PC that anyone can create and distribute. Pity that there isn't a map creator and distribution method for CoD4 for the Xbox. I suppose that its a control issue, who knows.
My point is that as a money generator, making maps for popular games like CoD4 and selling them on XBL or the Sony equivalent is to me a no-brainer. And no Dakar, it doesn't help you in the slightest, except by lightening your wallet.

I'm not against DLC, I just find most of it to be incredibly overpriced. Do you know that Modern Warfare's maps will still set you back 800 pts if you were to pick them up today? Isn't that ludicrous?
The one good thing I'll say is at least IW and Epic do four maps for 800, vs. Bungie's three.

Saw it earlier via TrueAchievements, I cannot wait for this game.
I'm a 45 right now in WaW and I'm really addicted to the challenge, weapon class, and perk systems.
Also, I'm getting pretty good with the sniper-rifles...looking forward to destroying Dakar, something that hasn't happened since the Halo 3 days.

My only gripe with WaW and it's sniper rifles is that you don't get a scope for them until you get 25 kills with the weapon, kind of annoying.

CoD 4 has beat WaW three weeks straight now on the Live charts. This sets up for a fun showdown when WaW releases its map third pack.
kb, you're a master of these things, is there a countdown or a widget somewhere for MW2?

I love the series so far and might be getting a PS3 soon and was wondering if I should get MW2 on PS3 or XBOX 360? I have the rest of the Call of Duty games on my 360 except for the first one. Anyone know how the online play is different between the two systems? Obviously not for this game since it isn't out yet but for other games you've played.
And my XBOX 360 is connected via component cables and the PS3 will be connected via HDMI, if this makes a difference on which platform to get it for. The 360 is too old to have the HDMI option. Sorry to derail the thread a little.

Not sure what game I'd pick. I've playing arcade a lot because I'm in a similar situation. I'd consider Battlefield 1943, but I feels its overpriced at 1200 msp for ****ing 4 maps you can only play online.

yea tried the demo for 1943, not impressed enough to spend the cash. I'm looking for something to hold me over for a month and dead space filled that void but it just wasn't long enough... (thats what she said)

Same here. I decided to try and finish WaW and CoD 4 on veteran before ODST comes out. We'll see how that goes.
Fatty, Bogues - Are you guys going to get the All Fronts map pack for Gears 2? We can all play Horde on the newer maps. It will be just like old times. Bogues, I'll even let you steal my kills. You bastard.

No, I have no interest in Dead Space, thanks though.
Obviously, it'd be more fun for us if you got the Gears of War All Fronts pack. Personally, I'd recommend just getting Arkham Asylum of World at War, but I suspect price is half the issue here.
