They dropped the price by $300. I just bought a CTO 15" or I'd hop all over one of these. 1 year warrantly and I think you can scheme getting panther for $20 since it's on the up to date list.

Whoa, that is a really awesome deal. The price drop must have been recent, because I think it was like 2499 yesterday. I too have a BTO 15" that I ordered after the Paris Expo, otherwise I would have considered the brilliance of the 17" PB.

So what are the pros and cons of the Rev A 17" besides the size, which depending might be a pro or a con.

Have they been reliable? Are refurbished PBs a good way to go?

Maybe this would be better than the 15" 1ghz being offered by Clubmac for $2029. I don't really need portability, just something that I can move from room to room at the house and a 17" screen would be cheaper in the long run than buying a 12" RevB plus upgraded ram and Airport card since I wouldn't have to buy a larger screen. Hmm ...

Thanks for any advice

The PB17 are a design of beauty and people stare in amazement when they see it. I love my PB17,...it's fast, quiet and light compared to others out there.

The size is definitely big, but that can go both ways. Big size gives you a big screen, but when in terms of portability, not the greatest. If you buying the PB17, portability is not the main reason why you would get the 17, which is why I bought a 12.

When it comes down to it, go to your Apple Store and play around with it and compare it to it's siblings and see what you like.

My words exactly. In the end, the size of the computer is most dependent on your individual needs. I'm currently attending school, so having a desktop would've been a pain as I boxed it up for summer break or left it (nervously) in my dorm during shorter holidays. The 17" occupies the space between a desktop and a laptop, yielding very high laptop computing performance while eliminating the problem of moving a desktop. And, if need be, I can pop it in my booq bag and use it for presentations or studying in the library. Absolutely ideal for my situation.

Oh yeah, and people's jaws drop when they see it.

I just can't get myself to purchase the 17"PB. Its a real beauty, however as a college student that has no car, and that relies on bikes, rail, and walking I cannot justify buying that machine. When the end of this month comes, I will pick up a 15'PB. That should be comfortable. Plus I've already got the sleeve to fit it.

IMO the 17" is not that much larger than a 15". Once you use a 17" you won't settle for anything smaller.

The only con that I can see with a Revision A 17" is the graphics card and the older G4 processor. But the price makes up for that!
Scooters are more fun than computers and only slightly more frustrating
