Quicktime Pro to Quicktime 7 Pro

Can anyone tell me if I have to pay another $29 to upgrade QT Pro to QT7 Pro? If that's the case, is it worth it? I'm currently running 10.3. Thanks for your help!

According to the Quicktime FAQ page and the side panel of the Tiger box:
"Upgrades to QuickTime 7 Player are free. Upgrades to QuickTime 7 Pro are $29.99."

Yes, you have to pay Apple for a new QT Pro license when upgrading from QT6 to QT7. I remember doing that from QT5 to QT6. I paid the $29 and I hope Apple uses that to lower the QT7 system requirements.

And, on 10.3 at least, the new Cocoa player is no improvement at all. In fact, my experience with it has sucked so far.
Lots of window focus problems, volume control slider not moving when you drag it (though the volume changes); I've had to force quit it a few times with streaming content and the spinning beachball of death makes plenty of appearances; it doesn't respect the left Dock position; the user interface not refreshing properly, particularly the chapter drop-down.
Seems like a really poor effort on Panther.

UPDATE: I tracked down the jerky playbacks to crappy compatibility between the 3vix decoder and QT7 (3vix forums mention this). I got the latest "xvid" decoder from VersionTracker and find that it gives me smooth playback of the same movies.
I'm fairly pleased. Now if Apple can just get those "selection" markers to be smooth when you move them on this hardware...
Sometimes when using the "selection" markers, I'll suddenly get a "copy" pointer and ghost image of the current frame as if some drag/drop is happening.

Yah, I know. It just caught me off gaurd. Went to save a clip and found out my QT was no longer QT Pro. After some research I discovered the whole sordid truth. Just gave 'em my $30 again, as well.
'Sides, smart ass, I haven't had my QT 6 Pro key for three years...

As much as I was really mad to see that QT7 required an upgrade, I must say that QT Pro is one of the best purchases I've made for my Mac, and $30 every couple of years is worth it for the number of times it's helped me out in a pinch. I'm not an audio or video professional, but I've needed to make basic cuts and modifications to sound and video files on short notice and QT Pro has just enough basic features to get the job done without requiring an expensive audio/video editing app.
