Now when Microsoft has released Office v.X that includes Windows Media Player when are they planning to release the standalone player? I'm not going to buy Office just to get the Media Plyer. And yes I need it for some sites which requires wmp. If I could decide I would go for Quicktime as the only format, but that's not a reality.
Any clue about when they will release it?

Thank you! I've got the same question. Where is it and will it have an IE plugin in so I don't have to launch the player? Also, with the Beta version, I had to specify what type of file types could be opened in Media Player via the protocol preferences in IE. I hope this isn't the case with the final version as most people won't know how to do this.

Curretntly I'm "beta" testing it (*wink wink, nudge nudge...* you can't take me alive!!). Can't get it to launch .asf files without downloading them... tried changing the plugin defaults for a while to no avail...
However, the program itself isn't bad at all. Doesn't consume as much cpu as QuickTime does but will the video will lock up on certain tasks (unlike QuickTime) and you can't drag the screen around while having it continue to play (like QuickTime can). It comes with a default and an alternate skin that are both quite nice IMHO. Video plackback is pretty good (a hell of a lot better than watching stuff in classic!) and overall the app has a lot of promise.
The question becomes... when is it going to be released for the rest of everyone?

Common! That's not the right answer to the question. I know I can download it from Hotline and Carracho, but I don't want to. I want to go to versiontracker and download a supported release from Microsoft. I don't have time to search around for it on Hotline/Carracho. I'm pretty tired of everybody replying to threads saying: "Download it from Carracho/Hotline", it's kind of a childish approach. That doesn't help my mother with her problem watching a movie on the net or listening to the radio.

philzilla, what is the name of the file that you download? I haven't been able to find it anywhere on Carracho. Or do you have to download the entire Office 10 disk image?
