could it be that the internet will be the first step to the whole world knowing english? everything in url's is english right? i have never seen a chinese set-up computer, and see what the url's look like, but they have to be english right?

i am sure there are tons of examples where people speaking other languages have to know english to do simple internet tasks.

am i wrong?

What you mean you don't read all those millions of pages that are in other languages?

You really should think before you type.

All urls aren't in English, try going to www.kniga.com. Kniga is a romanization of the Russian "книга". All urls the Roman alphabet which, I believe, is used by more languages than any other writing system, and so is a good candidate for a system to be used in an international forum such as the internet because most people (even if their first language doesn't use the Roman alphabet) are familiar with it.

Try reading my post. That isn't the English alphabet, it is the Roman alphabet, it is used by a metric buttload of languages. You're right, you won't see 饺_.com, you will see jiaozi.com (no, that one's not a real webpage...). 'jiaozi' like 'kniga' is not an English word. And what about other languages that use the same alphabet? Is www.louvre.com in English? No, it's in French, French uses the same alphabet we do.

Hmmm...
Not sure if you could class it as "English". "American" maybe; "English", no.

(do web browsers respond to a "CENTRE" or a "COLOUR" command?)

IP4 URLs have to be in Roman.

I believe that IP 6 has unicode domains.

The internet was designed to survive a nuclear war - that's about all.

The rest has been a glorious accident.

Considering the amount of moth-eaten drivel that people pass off as 'English' on the internet, I'm fairly sure that there is no danger of the above happening.

I can be a grammar/spelling sometimes.

not sure you realize you've structured that last sentence to mean the opposite of what I think you were attempting to convey.
