10 gig old one. It broke with 30 days left on the warranty and Apple just sent me a new one. Very cool, no scratches yet.

Two steps forward (six steps back)

An original 5 GB, and just got my 15 GB yesterday. I've got the 5 gigger hooked up to my stereo at home and the 15 GB stays with me wherever I go. Many days' worth of music in my pocket.

I got 15 gigs of iPods. An old school 5 that is just sitting back in its original packaging and a touchwheel 10 (not the new ones) that I am using right now.

Don't have any interest in one at the moment. I still like my walkman, listen to a local talkshow. It would be nice if they added the option of data like the Palm!

When I can afford one, I'll buy one. For now, I'm gonna keep using the fake one I made out of a cut-up cereal box and white-out, for make-believe time on lonely nights.

Even with my iPod I still listen to my talk radio in the car. Where the iPod is a life saver is when you get in those dead areas that have no radio reception. Makes the four hours from Purdue to Evansville a lot easier.

Nope. I have no need of one, seeing as I never go anywhere which doesn't have its own sound system (car / bar / friends' houses / nightclub / supermarket). Never owned a "walkman" either.

I did that with my tower.. seriously. It was really pathetic. I didn't have an LCD yet, so I just set up the tower, key boared, mouse, switch, dsl modem, phone.. I was going nuts.. absolutely nuts. So, I cut out a piece of cardboard 17 inches in the diagonal, colored in the screen.. put it on a stand I made for it, and sat there for hours.. and hours.. lonely, quite, unmoving.

Starting up that computer for the first time was like hearing angels sing, in deep dark baratone voices ringing with awesome destructive power. (the startup chime)

Hmm. I have a 10 gig rev b iPod.

OK, here's a question for you iPod owners. Before you got one, did you have a CD / minidisc / tape Walkman thingy that you used all the time? Thing is, I never use my Walkman, but would love to get an iPod, although I thing my decision is based on the fact that its a beautiful thing, rather than I'll actually use it much.

Bought a 20GB last August, and I will be buying a new 30GB one shortly! I'll probably hook the 20 up to my bedroom stereo. The 30 will be my new portable.

I have a Walkman CD, but it was impractical. I hate carrying media. I was limited- my music moods shift often and sometimes with great violence (Bach... NO! TOOL!... uh... Nick Drake... WAIT! CRIM!... ooooo... maybe some James Cotton... but jeez, I sure could go for some Primus... or Monk... or...). I could never carry enough media to satisfy. This was a near perfect option.

Bought the 5 gig version and thought that would be all I'd need. Nope. When I got my 10 gig iPod I thought that would be all I'd need. Nope. This is getting to be an expensive habit.

I have a refurb 5 gig. Would use it more often but never remember to. Would LOVE the car iTrip thing.

Is the battery SUPPOSED to die when not in use?

I got a 5GB as a Christmas gift the year they were introduced, and have a 30GB on order. The 5 recently accompanied me on a car trip to Texas, 4,000 miles round-trip, happily playing away the entire time through an iRock. It was brilliant, 10 days in the car and I didn't have to bring a single CD.

The battery likes to be out of the cold and yes, topped off as much as possible. But then again, that's in the User's manual, so I guess it's not common knowledge.

Before I got mine, I mostly worked at home and had the stereo going all the time. For bus trips out to visit my folks and plane tripes, I've had various CD players, but the last one would stop playing at random times, and was hard to get it and out of my Winter jacket pockets.

The iPod goes with me practically everywhere now, thanks to its size. I mainly bought it for my commute to and from my new job, and it proved its worth in the first few days.

A+ would buy again!

Manual? There was a manual?

well, it's just somewhat annoying. my old walkman sits in a drawer for 2 years, yet still cranks when I play it, but my iPod can't sit for two weeks?

Must get in habit of plugging it in perpetually, I guess!

Did you download the iPod software update a while back? It was supposed to fix this problem, it worked for me. My iPod stays in the car all the time, and hits freezing temperates at night. SInce the update, battery life stays constant.
