It surprises me that they don't have some kind of content management system that allows for staging updates. Why is the store always down for 30-90 minutes when new products are added? All that talent, and no one can design a decent web app?

It's probably better for you if it doesn't. Don't want anyone spilling beer in your MacBook when they're trying to pop the top.

They don't take down the store to update refurb stock.

But people, seriously: there is NO NEED to post these "OMG teh Apple Store is DOWN!" threads. Really, there isn't.

When you all read these threads, do you read them in your head with a neutral voice? Am I the only one that reads the Apple Store is down threads with an Arnold voice?

For that matter, when you read through any thread, do you use accents? Like do you mispronounce the word "about" for Canadians and think in a Terance and Philip voice? Do you give euro accents to all our socialist friends across the pond, besides the Sean Connery speaking island of the UK? Sorry if this is completely off the wall, but I've always been fascinated by how peole read to themselves.

Heh, I try to make people read my blogs in a Sean Connery accent so they won't be so bored, just as an example.

Racist against Korean's or something?

I guess some people wake up, go to their computers, and log into http://store.apple.com every single Tuesday to see if the Apple Store is up or down and then they come here and log in?

What's the big deal anyway? Anything new? Maybe Apple bought Dreamworks or something?

It made my morning more interesting (not much, but a little). Besides, it's more interesting than 1/3 of the threads around here anyway.

Honestly even though I have lived in Canada my whole live I have never ever ever heard anyone say "Aboot". I wonder where that comes from.

Canadians do say "eh" a lot though.

I watched something on the telly the other night about "behind the scenes at Naked News" (that's what, Ontario, right?). The bloke who runs it was saying "aboot" in normal conversation. I thought it was all a Matt and Trey joke until I actually heard that guy say it, eh?

Canadians DO say "aboot" and only other Canadians can't here them say it.

Sometimes I hear the English add an "R" to the end of a word that ends in "A" also...it comes out "AR" instead of "AH."

Like, I was watching something on Prince Charles' 1-year anniversary yesterday and the woman talking about Camilla kept saying, "Camillar" and it was a bit strange to hear. I've heard it before when visiting London.

Yeah, i was just using a typical stereotypical accent there. That's more Minnesota/Wisconsinish. I'll admit it's fun to read your posts in a gay Darth Vader accent though. Accents are funny things though; last week, I was mistaken by some Londoners as being English.

Geez, I swear I have never heard it. Perhaps it is more of a hick thing.

Anywho, as for Naked News they brought me in for an interview to be the graphic designer but I wasn't that impressed with the staff. My friend was also a "model" there for a few years and didn't like it much.

We have no idea what they did during that time. This is a guess, but they could have had a scheduled down time where they performed a handful of things. You are assuming it was just ARD.

Also, for many, ARD is far from an unimportant product. It permits them to do their jobs from a centralized location.

No I was not assuming that Goldfinger was.

Either way it is some sorry assed software if Goldfinger is suggesting they have to take the whole site down just to add a simple product.

Well, ARD is the only thing that's new so yes they probably do indeed use crapo software. I mean, the store always goes down when they add something..

So do lots of Americans. "Idear," etc. Go to New England, they drop r's here and add r's there.

Some others:

I'm going down to the health "spar"
I drive a Toyota "Corroller"

Then, after having the temerity to add an "R" sound to the things that end in "A", should a word actually end in an "R" sound, for some silly reason they change it to an "A".

Water becomes "woe-tah".

As for Canadians, I'm surprised no one has mentioned how they pronounce sorry like "soorrey".

Personally I am always shocked when I hear just about every celebrity on american TV say "Ax" instead of ask.

Futurama was great at making fun of that.

That one drives me absolutely furious. It is only worse when they follow it up with a "dem"

EXAMPLE: "I AX DEM' if they wanted to do.

Never heard this happen.

Can't say I watch too many celebrities in unscripted situations though.

Many celebrities can hold their own in a regular conversation, but I've seen a few interviews where the curtain is drawn and you see the real Oz.

It's important to remember that many of them don't have more than a high school education.

Right. This taking the site down for a single product update thing... ...wouldn't have anything to do with their site not actually being a site, but several? I mean, they use geographical content caches or something like that, don't they? Wouldn't these need to be updated and/or the data filtered through to them and/or the old data purged?

I admittedly watch way too much televison, american tv. The only people I see saying that (on television and in real life) are black people, or southerners of any race.

I definitely don't think "just about every celebrity on american tv" talks like that.
