If I use Expose more then a few times it will casue: 1) The dock to have a spinning ball when I mouse over it, 2) Expose doesn't work, 3) Background will no longer auto switch & 4) CPU usage jumps to 100% as the Dock now sucks up all cycles.

Killing the dock in Activiy Monitor only manages to kill the dock and bring it back with the spinning cursor. I have to kill the Window Server (which effectivly forces a log out) to get it back to normal.

I haven't noticed this behavior. I just used Expose dozens of times using dozens of windows and moused over the dock in between each time.

When you refer to using Expose "a lot", how many times is that?

I just did some testing. First time it took 8 times with Expose. Second time I did it 20 times and not lock up. Third time took about 10 times to lock up.

On my iBook, I opened up about 40 windows of Safari and used Expose about 40 times before I got bored. Other then the fact that it hesitated slightly because of the amount of windows opened, it worked fine. Brought it down to about 15 and I say no delay at all.

Did you do an upgrade to Panther or an archive and install? What graphics card do you have?

First I did a upgrade and had the problem. Then I did a Archive/Install which is what I'm running now.

Expose appears to not work as smoothly when there is a Classic app runing. Palettes become reduced and dynmaically reset and the clasic apps are not exposed by expose - they appear to be second or third class citizens.

But, Expose works pretty perfectly (especially given that it is new and major UI), for me and it is new favorite thing!

I still wish folder resizing would work.....they should put the Expose team on that one!

Do you have fast user switching and more than one user on at the same time? My experience is that the windowserver often gets skewy when more than one user is running at the same time..

I did it several hundred times, and I watched top to see if there were any memory leaks or loss of resources, but my 450 cube and lowly ati rage 128 kept right on going.
I think he may have some bad hardware.

I've done it many many times, switching between various modes of Expos� and haven't had a problem.

Upgraded from 10.2.8 (G5) to 10.3, no Archive & Install/Clean Install.

Just in case nobody else has noticed - if you quickly press the expose key the windows will Expose and stick, until you press it again. If you press and hold the Expose key, they will snap back as soon as you release the key. Nifty.

I've used Expos� many times very quickly but I just became dizzy.

Very hypnotic.

to the original poster:

try turning off yoru desktop auto switching. That's a feature most people do not turn on. Could be a cause.

I've used expos� hundreds of times and have not noticed that bevaior.
