I'm a recent switcher, from a Linux user of 6 years to my shiny new 24" imac. I have a quick question about X11 on the mac.

I'm basically curious if os x's X11 can handle any 3d work at all, I'm not looking for game quality animations, more specifically, can it handle running things like beryl. If your not sure what beryl is, its a 3d desktop manager.

Any insight would be appreciated. I really want to have apples gui and beryl running simultaneously.

thanks in advance!

I doubt it, I think Apple's X11 implementation is still based on XFree86, and seems to be given only the bare minimal of attention.

You might want to look at rolling our own X.org or other X11 implementations available for OS X, I do believe some exist.
