A friend sent me this; I've never seen it on US TV though so eh (then again, I myself don't actually have a TV in my dorm room), maybe this has been around for quite some time. Thought it was pretty neat.

It's absolutely brilliant.

I'm fairly sure it was commisioned by Sony Europe, which explains why you won't have seen it on US TV!

Thats a great ad. No pretentious morons in their million dollar homes showing off their brand new TV's. No filming the TV in a way that makes it look 100x better than it actually is. This is just a nice ad to watch, it catches your attention and makes you just want to keep watching. Only at the very end do you find out what the ad is selling. Good music too.

If I had to make an initial guess, I'd say that most of those balls were not actually real. Of course them being all real is totally feasible. That would just be a difficult cleanup job, and it would be hard to imagine the city allowing that to take place. I would think that they'd be finding rubber balls in odd places for months afterwards.

Very cool ad though.

Set to the stripped-down acoustic soundtrack of José González' "Heartbeats", 250,000 'superballs' come flying, in slow motion, over the brow of a typical street in San Francisco, raining down on anything that gets in their way. And it was done without computer graphics.
They were actual balls. Looks like they set up big nets to try and catch them all.

A very good ad!

I like it. Sony may be a bunch of bastards but they know what ad agencies to hire. As much as I look down on psychology in general - because I don't think it is on a very high level - advertising psychology is something I respect. Well, it is also an art, called graphic design. Of all the fields of psychology I can imagine ad-psychology to be the one best researched. Lots of money in it.

cheers
