I have two macs now. I need to remote control my mac. Is there something built into osx that would allow me to do this? or do i need a 3rd party app.
Thanks!

There is a remote control system built-in to the OS for use with bluetooth devices such as a compatible mobile phone, but it is quite rudimentary (when you first pair your phone with the Mac, the setup asks if you would like to use it as a remote).
Salling Clicker (third-party shareware) is the software of choice for more advanced features when using a mobile phone or PDA - it is able to perform actions based on your proximity so e.g. if you leave the room (go out of bluetooth range), iTunes will cease playing, or e.g. if someone phones you, iTunes/DVD player/etc will pause. There is also the freeware Romeo, but I haven't used it in a long while so I don't know if it is still being developed.

HyperX, you mean something that allows you to access your mac over the internet?
or the control described by JKT?
If the first one, then you need a third-party app:
You have the one and only "Apple Remote Desktop", which you can buy from apple.
Very good and stable!
You also have free solutions:
VNC
(you will need a server and a client, do a search on "VNC Mac" and you're off to go!
I've used both and if you want to save some $$$, go the VNC way, it's amazing!

yeah I need something like VNC - but realvnc.com only shows support for the enterprise software for the mac. I have no problem paying for it, but would like to try it out first. I already use chicken of vnc for client, just need a server (like the vnc package for windows that includes both).
Thanks again!!

I use ARD3 now, but in the past I used to enable VNC access in the Sharing Preferences > Apple Remote Desktop and got access using a number of different VNC clients.

Just go to System Preferences > Sharing > Serivces, turn on Apple Remote Desktop then add a password.
Then use a piece of VNC software, I find Chicken of the VNC the best.

This old thread has specifics on how to set up VNC over an SSH connection.
I use the method detailed in the thread (Chicken of the VNC and OSXvnc via an SSH tunnel) to sort out problems on my elderly Moms iBook, 1000 miles away.
As others have mentioned, you dont need to use OSXvnc anymore as a VNC server is built into Tiger and turned on via the sharing systems pref. But OSXvnc (now called Vine Server) has some additional options that you may find useful.
