My firefox 2.0 (on latest OSX) is dumping files that i 'open' onto the desktop. Saved files go to the default directory. So if I open a PDF, it ends up on the desktop. Needless to say, I have to spend time cleaning it all up. Is there a way to make all files go to my default download folder? Anyone know?

I think this issue is specific to OSX, because my Windows XP (that I am running in parallels) is putting all files in the default folder. Any help would be great!

Go into the Preferences - Main. There is a radio button labelled "Save files to"; make sure that is selected and browse for the directory where you want your downloads to go.
You could also copy the resulting setting from prefs.js in your profile to a file that you make, user.js, so that that setting will stay put. Then make a backup copy of user.js.
