The Apple TV could be getting support for games and Bluetooth controllers in an upcoming firmware update, sources say. The update is expected to arrive in March or earlier, and developers are reportedly working on controller options. The games would be downloaded directly to an Apple TV, instead of hosted on a separate iOS device.

Game support could require new hardware to go with it. The current Apple TV is based on the A5 processor -- which dates back to 2011 -- and only holds about 8GB of local storage, since it's intended exclusively for streaming from the Internet, iOS devices, or local computers. Many iOS games measure in the hundreds of megabytes, and graphically intense ones can fill 1-2GB or more.

We've been doing this for years, waiting for a SDK from Apple... The ability to sync almost any control including things like the WiiFit board is awesome. Please for the love of all thats holy, get in the game Apple. Pun fully intended.

It'll still be half-baked, like the AppleTV has always typically been.

Apple TV has so much potential. Don't know why Apple is not pushing it.
