Also, rounding off the home tour.

Dakar on the left, Andi on the right in her sandstone temple.

Is that Sub Basement 3 showing in the water? Amazing.
Hardest thing about working in the water right now is the stupid graphics let you see further down when you're above the water than when you're in it.
Anyway, after what looks like a failed attempt to create a tree farm last night I'm a little burned out on this.

You deserve it. Your finely tuned focus and patience in mining it has only been matched by my commitment to good structure design and landscape preservation.

I stopped buy the computer as I was going out the door, three of you were online. Don't you have work/school! I get this Monday off though. WOOT.
Dakar I've gotten trees to grow in a 1 deep, 1 wide, 8 tall slot cut in the side of the corridor. Didn't produce enough saplings to be self sustaining. Check you height and put a torch on the ground right next to the sapling.

I'm very OCD about mining. My earliest attempts were haphazard and all over the place. Once I started making huge, orderly pits I noticed my gains were increasing and it was easier to keep track of what was going on.
This mine is my largest pit to date, and as we all know, yielded the best results.
My next one I plan on making will be 20x20, which sounds massively tedious, but I think it'll work out in the end...course who knows where I'll start from.

I am still at work. sek, Lam, and Bogues?
Blaze, as is typical, my indictment of my tree farm was based more my ideas for its final form aesthetics than actual functioning design.
---
It's too bad this game doesn't have cardboard. It'd be hilarious to come home and fins Laminar had constructed a cardboard box home on my doorstep. (pls don't do something similar)

Oh, I got this, remember, my plan for the view of sub basements 15-11 (at least) is supposed to be an emptied out mined cavern full of lava flows. I will totally help with this.

If you want aesthetics go plant them in all of Seks various caves.

Sure but I usually reserve aesthetics for things people will see. If they wander into my grid mine I don't particularly care if they find it ugly. Or the rats nest of cables hidden behind the desk.

Blaze - out of curiosity, do you have any kind of backup system in place for the server? I've read horror stories of servers crashing and everyone loses what they've spent weeks and months working on.

If Laminar left a gift, I never did see it.
I logged on briefly yesterday and discovered the vast sandland north of andi's place. It's very high and very awesome, but a very tempting source of sand as well.
I was back on again late last night and the mobs were on. I did stumble into a cavern working on my tree farm and fought off a skeleton and zombie before a spider picked me off. (I couldn't wall up fast enough because blocks were disappearing and teleporting as I placed them. ****ing lag). I did manage to get most of my stuff back, but there was stuff on the floor I could see but couldn't pick up for some reason. SMP – it's a little glitchy.
Other than that, a tree I planted outside finally grew and I went to look at it the daytime. So of course within 10 seconds there a hiss, boom and a chunk of ground is missing, and a chunk of tree just for spite's sake, too. I immediately start filling in the ground and once I get close to the other tree, hiss, boom, chunk of ground and tree missing again. I really, really ****ing hate creepers.

I didn't get nearly as much Minecraft time in on vacation. The wife and in-laws filled up the schedule so much that I was too exhausted each night (except one). However...
I finally got fed up with my nastiness of a castle, hopped in a boat, and set out for new lands:
So far, useful minerals are more plentiful, the terrain is more interesting, and there is a massive, hilly desert starting 100-200 yards behind my new digs.
After a few hours work, I had my new place partially built.
I added another level. Will post when completed.

Alright fatty, I made the railway line between our places. Sexied up, Dakar-style of course. Needs some polish and the boosters, but it's 80% done.
If you don't care for it, I'll redesign/scrap it.

Clearing a backlog of grabs, not including others from my laptop.
Early on, view of our community from near Blaze's.
The sandland near pandi's. You can barely see the bridge.
Blaze's Pyramid receiving it's first doses of lava.
While working on my new tower I snapped a few pics of the surrounding area.
We have a pretty sweet looking area shaping up.
The view of my place (and pandi's) from sek's deck.

Here's Fry after enjoying the view from the top. If you follow the clouds from the spawn you can't miss it. The entrance is to the right (east). It takes careful planning now that hostile mobs are on.
Finished adding lava to the pyramid, carting seven buckets at a time, mostly from sek's mine.. It's actually flowing down from the 4 ridges so it looks like there's more than there is.
Heard this guy in my mine today. The room is 1 block wider than he was.

I forget, how high is the top?

For your next pyramid, water walls, lava floor.

If you pay close attention, you realize that stream of lava is about to hit right next to me. There was a leak early on.

Well, my Tree Farm / Park is 99% done. I'm, as is typical, upgrading some details, which mostly is adding lots more glass to it can be admired better from the outside. I've used a criminal amount of glass, and I don't even want to know how much I've broken due to changes in design.
Not sure what I'll be doing next. Maybe I'll try actual mining.

Funny you mention that...
I added a fourth floor with glass so that I could see the terrain below me. I'm honestly not sure that I like it any better. I also extended four blocks diagonally instead of three like the 2nd and 3rd levels, so it's beginning to look kind of warped. I planned on extended five more, then six, and so on, but I gave up last night when a creeper spawned on my roof and blasted a large portion to kingdom come when I was getting a drink (thinking I was safe).

I don't know if that'll help the 3rd floor... that looks a little unweildy. The extra glass height isn't helping either. Not sure what I'd do there, however... my first instinct is center pole, but that makes me think too much of the '39 World's Fair.

Its only 24 or so tall. Its the way it plays with perspective that makes it seem taller. It didn't look right when it was 40 across so i increased it to 48.

Ask Sek I shamelessly exploited the infinite spring technique when putting in the floor.

*ahem* It was more I was thinking that the view from the top wasn't that terribly high.

Always light up your roofs. Even if your not going up there. They'll come down to you if they have too.
I agree the proportions don't look right. I know it's not practical but I think it would look better if the floor got thinner as you go up.

I know why, I'm just saying it's still surprising. My tower ends 8 floors above the ground but it's still not that crazy breathtaking at 6 (the highest you can actually climb it).
