The following (I think hilarious) quote comes from the below linked article:
This article is about a person born with two XX chromosomes and usually identified as a "woman" but feels more like, and identifies as, a man; and who is running as his/her high school prom king.
In any case, the above quote left me in stiches. How very typical for a boy to say such things. Ahh......

I like lipstick lesbians. I remember debating with a girl back in HS as to whether they exist IRL.

Ever wonder why you never see transgendered males running for Prom Queen? Only a lesbian would put so much stock in such a trashy, low-brow affair. Back when I was in high school everything about the prom was so tacky I avoided it like the plague.

I went to Prom with some of my stoner buddies - guys and gals.
About 1/3 the way through, we left, got stoned again and went to a midnight Rocky Horror Cabaret - in our prom outfits.
Hell of a lot more fun.

Ironically I just got back from seeing my sister, the high school is having their after-prom here on campus tonight. For five bucks they get bowling, pool, tons of food and drinks, a hypnotist, and over $2000 in raffle prizes. Not a bad deal.

I thought they called "transsexual" people who are about to, or on the road to transitioning to the other sex. How does she really identify as a man? What's the difference between her condition and simply being a butch lesbian? I don't know why people have to adopt the trans label to cross-dress. That's a personal pref, not gender identity disorder.

Nobody, in the thread nor the article, used the word "transexual" which, yes, describes a person who wishes to transition to the opposite gender. I'm also a little wary of your use of the word "disorder," again, not used in this thread nor the article. The word used was "transgendered" which is the all-encompassing term for not only transsexuals, but transvestites and other forms of gender expression. The article states she's not currently interested in altering her sex physically, so the most likely sub-category of transgenderism applicable to her is "genderqueer." This assumes she wants a label period.

Gender identity disorder is the psychiatric term for people who feel they were born in the wrong body. Gender identity disorder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaI'm sorry, I said the wrong word, I meant transgendered, but transsexuality is another, more specific word for transgendered.

That's not true. The transgendered, or people who have gender identity disorder, are actually contrasted with transvestites, who don't feel they are trapped in the wrong body, but merely cross-dress for sexual pleasure. If you search the DHealth Channel, they have several stories on the shows they have done on this, with more info.

Nothing in the article states Cinthia is feeling discomfort or is unable to deal with her "condition."
Since you insist on quoting Wikipedia, which I personally hate given its reputation for dubious accuracy, please check the page for Transgender, which clearly states in the first sentence it is the general term. There is a reason GLBT stands for "Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered" and not "... Transsexual."
Even TFA states:
She considers herself transgender, an umbrella term that covers all people whose outward appearance and internal identity don't match their gender at birth.

"Transgendered" and "gender identity disorder" are not one in the same, so please stop trying to link them. Not everyone who considers themselves transgendered has a disorder. Why don't you search the DHealth Channel yourself and post evidence to the contrary?

Q: How does that (transgender) differ from transsexual, transvestite or gay?
A: In clinical terms, transsexual is a further extreme of transgender. A transsexual is someone who makes the choice to have either hormonal or surgical intervention to change their gender. So the term transgender is the broader term, which includes all of the interpersonal and societal ramifications, while transsexual relates specifically to the genitals. Transvestite is in a totally different category. Transvestites are people who don't actually live their lives as if they are a different gender or feel they are a different gender. When we think of transvestite, most of us are actually thinking of a fetishistic transvestite, which is most often a man dressing in women's clothing, usually for sexual pleasure. So a transvestite is usually a man who gets turned on by being in contact with women's clothing.
