Does anyone know if Disney will end up owning 21st Century Fox? They are trying to buy Sky in Europe and I would much rather Disney own Sky than Murdoch.
The deal is apparently that Disney will buy 21st Century Fox but that certain properties will be spun off . We don't know exactly which, but one of them is Fox networks in the US, which Disney will not be allowed to buy as they own ABC. The general thrust of the deal, however, is that Murdoch wants to sell off entertainment assets to double down on news and sports.

I heard that Sky is part of the deal. That includes a lot of sport broadcast in Europe, they've had a chokehold on Premier League rights since it was created.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....
It is official. Sky is part of the deal, and so is the part of Hulu that Fox owns. Disney buys all of 21st Century except Fox News, Fox networks, and some national sports channels.
I'm unclear on that too. I keep hearing they are getting the rights to TV shows but not the broadcast network. Are they getting everything but the broadcast network license or something? Because they already have one?
I'm also wondering if they are prohibited fro taking the sports due to the structure of some of the rights deals not being allowed to go to the same broadcaster maybe? They used to do that sometimes.

Yes, Disney buys Simpsons and they buy the cable channels. They can't buy the television station network, because then the FTC will stop the whole thing. Not sure if Fox plans to sell it to someone else. Fox could continue to run the stations using content that they have licensed from Disney or from other studios, or they might decide to sell them to someone else.

And I think those licenses are “free”. The parent company gets its money from selling national ads. They then leave blank spots during the commercial breaks which local stations fill up with their own ads.
If Fox will no longer produce something like Simpsons, they will have to pay for it to the content producer - Disney in this case, if the deal closes. The split between Fox and its franchise owners I think works something like you said.

I did. I thought it was great. Sure it's getting overhyped but that doesn't bother me. It's definitely worth 12 bucks and 2 hours of my time. The audience even applauded at the end. Can't recall the last time that happened.
Haven't seen it yet but everyone I know who has says it's pretty incredible. I'm waiting for the initial crowds to die down so I can get a good seat when I finally check it out.
We saw it last week, liked a lot of it, but it also seemed a little overhyped. Perhaps I wasn't getting all the "secret" messages.
No, I don't think there were secret messages. Some people supposedly "angry" at this success, some others are posting "neener neener neener" videos about it. Whatever. It's a movie, with good points and bad.
Good:
I liked the strong women: the general, the sister, the mother, the ex. I liked they had full fledged characters and not a tolkien woman to be the love interest. I love that not much time was spent at all on the love interest aspect of this story - it was hinted as the past, and hinted as the future, but there was no wasted time wandering off in the middle of battle for a fade to black (heh) scene. I liked their costumes and hair (handwaving the 5 hours they would need to get that hair... a la princess amadala).
Special effects. Yes. Gadgets, kid-Q, yes.
Cool variety of cultures.
Adoring Rhinos. yes.
Villian: Killmonger had well developed backstory. Someone compared it to Magneto, seeing what made him. He also had some funny lines. But he was still a horrible person...
Bad/Nitpicks:
Oh, so his sister has invented something that nullifies their magic metal? Wouldn't it be HORRIBLE if someone got hold of that?
2 tolkien white guys and the prissy museum lady who dies. I know it's not a movie about white people, shoe/other foot etc, but would be nice to have a woman ally too, yes? Maybe next movie.
T'challah, when your long lost cousin walks in and is going to steal your throne, you stop acting cool, you get on top of that situation and tell everyone you know who he is, you just found out, and hey, what a coincidence Klaue was stolen from you and then immediately shows up dead with Killmonger... I was disappointed in his friend who threw him over for Killmonger. How quickly their society broke down.
No one in the spy biz knew Killmonger was hanging out with Klaue? Even if the museum cameras were blocked at the time of the crime spree, they weren't before. American spy dude should have known. Then again, not like anyone would let him say much about what he knew... I know it must have been fun to shut down a white guy talking, but come on, he's got info.
I was disappointed in the final battle of friends vs friends, tribes killing each other... disappointed that the fate of a country in modern times, with modern futuristic tech, still comes down to mortal kombat.
I wanted them to be smarter.

I really liked DP2. Way more than BP. (see rant about representing black culture elsewhere.)
A couple of actual laugh out louds. Pretty relentless chuckling and the pop culture refs and 4th wall gags were actually often clever. X-Force simply superb, Domino was brilliant.
Shame about the girlfriend in a fridge. 8/10

What did you think compared to the original? I’m worried I’m tainted by how much I loved that. At the time, I considered it the best superhero movie ever.

I would say I liked it just as much as I liked the original.
Go see it.

I really enjoyed Infinity War. Principally because for the first time it gave us a properly engaging villain. This allowed a much greater depth to the jeopardy set up. Although there were plenty of fights it made it seem like it wasn't ALL about the hitting things, which was the great weakness of Age of Ulton's CGI smackfest.
The weaving in of so many characters, giving each one a real role and enough time on screen to contribute was a work of scripting art although Thor was the outstanding character in my opinion.

Subego, I don't think you'd enjoy infinity war without seeing some of the others. In many ways these are like chapters of a book or tv series. In a normal 2 hour movie you don't have character development or growth.
I enjoyed Infinity War too. Do I have nitpicks, with the plan, etc? Sure. But I liked the mixmatch teamups, the build, and the complexity of the villain.
all the thors were good popcorn flicks, but ragnarok was fun. Again, not sure it would be as fun if you hadn't at least seen other thors, and avengers 1. Some jokes are injokes.

I thought Thor two was a cold hard mess. Thor one was fun but uninspiring. Thor 3 is simply a brilliant and very funny film.

They’re so retconning who died in the snap at some point. I could see them keeping it when the losses amounted to Falcon, Winter Soldier, Vision, Scarlett Witch, and Strange, but there is no way that they keep Spidey’s death. I think that what we have now is the crew for Avengers 4 (Iron Man, Cap, Thor, Widow, Hulk, War Machine, plus Antman, Wasp, Captain Marvel and probably Hawkeye who weren’t in this movie, and Rocket and Nebula as some sort of support team), but that at the end of that movie, a lot of the ones who died come back.
I also don’t think that Avengers works well with this much magic. Space aliens yes, giant death robots yes, but this type of magic is wearying.
I really liked the movie, though. Extremely high expectations, and they met them.
