Please post bugs that you are still experiencing on Mac OS X 10.4.2 that have not been corrected with the updated.

I.e., does Mail.app still not hide when set to, if it is set in the accounts preference pane to automatically start at log in and hide?

if you use Saft -- your Safari will crash. Solution:

Drag Saft to, say, your desktop, and wait for an update -- Safari will work again

Lost my buddy icons in Adium... a minor gripe though since I never cared much about the icons.

I noticed that iCal did this when I restarted, and it had never done that before.

The MDD Audio Bug persists! In the meantime I'm just gonna do what a guy said at the Apple Forum, which is to use the headphone port on the front of the MDD tower instead of the Line-Out port on the back for my external speakers which is a good work around than downgrading to OSX Panther 10.3.5.

The issue with the drivers for the Radeon 8500 and the DVD Player application hasn't been resolved. Movies still appear as mostly green noise.

Used Software Update to go from 10.4.1 to 10.4.2 and my iChat agent now works. It was red and not working this morning at 10.4.1. This is on a single 1.8 PowerMac G5.

It does seem a bit snappier to me than 10.4.1.

When logging in with an ActiveDirectory account with a user that is in the groups allowed to admin the computer (but not a user that is defined as a local admin) you cannot use 'sudo' on the command line, even though 'id' reports you as a member of group 80(admin).

Ya... it's sort of specialized, but my bug on it in Radar was marked "duplicate" a few weeks ago and it still did not make the cut...

Strange I started up the SU program and as it was searching for updates it crashed- NEVER had this happened before. Went to the apple site to check out what was going on :

Software Update quits unexpectedly with Mac OS X 10.4

It's possible that Software Update could unexpectedly quit when installing software in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger (via a network connection other than your built-in Ethernet port such as AirPort), but there's a quick and easy fix. Just make a change in Network preferences:

From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
Click Network to display its preference pane.
From the Show pop-up menu, choose Network Port Configurations.
Select the Built-in Ethernet checkbox to enable the port.
Click Apply Now.
That's it. Software Update should now work just fine. If you wish, you can go back to Network preferences and disable the built-in Ethernet port again. You don't have to use Ethernet to download updates.

So I tried it- SU still crashes so I manually dled the 10.4.2 package. Has any had this problem. Why would an update crash SU? Explanations are welcome.

They fixed the Finder crash with looking in packages and then cmd-up arrow-ing to where the package is.

But they didn't fix the clipping of text in dock item labels.

update. iChat Av seems slower to connect..after the upgrade. They seem to have fixed in my case 3 way video conferencing, we connect 3 of us with a higher framerate, well most of the time. Its still flakey connecting. Getting "not enough bandwidth connection crap".It really depends on who is inviting who?
The higest bandwidth (seems like hight uploads speeds) are the winners.Upload speed seams the most important to keep a good framerate. Please share your experience.

Anybody else having problems with TV Tracker, a widget from Monkey Business Labs? I cannot get it to connect and pull up the TV listings since upgrading to v10.4.2...there again, I could use less TV in my life. It's a sign from Apple!

The fans in my Dual G5 are still going off too often, even for simple things like clicking on a menu in Cinema 4D or switching users.

TV Tracker isn't working for me either, even though it worked fine on every 10.4.2 build to this point, and on 8C46 until I installed the combo updater. Weird. I wish there was a better TV widget anyway, TV Tracker is really slow sometimes.

My HD failed on me yesterday so replaced it today. Did a full fresh install last night and all software updates.

This morning, updated to 10.4.2 and all is fine. I enable bluetooth pairing with my Motorola e398, since the re-install, and it recognises the phone when pairing no problems. When using iSync to 'add device' it finds it but states "This device is not supported by iSync.

This was all working fine yesterday and not working now after 10.4.2.

Still investigating.

Cheers,
Steve

Bug I still have...

Whenever I'm going to be away, from my computer, I go to the login screen. I do this by going up to my name and selecting "Login Window," from the user list. I often put the computer to sleep, from the "login window," as well. However, under Tiger, whenever I do this, the first attempt fails. It goes to sleep, for 4 seconds, and then it wakes back up. I select the "sleep" button again, and then it goes to sleep, for good. Very very annoying. I want this fixed! I sent Apple a bug report. I'm on the current 12-inch Powerbook.

Two things I've noticed since the update:

First, in iChatter you don't hear the voices other people have chosen, only the default.

Second, this one is odd -- I have a Logitech MX510 mouse, with buttons at either end of the scroll wheel (buttons 7 and 8) which in os 10.3.? through 10.4.1 acted as scroll buttons. The up one still does, the down one now brings up an apple-tab like window of currently open apps. I can't decide if that's good or bad, but I wish it was under my control at least.

I noticed the Adium icons were placed in the trash by the update. They are all JPG's.

Some new bugs and bugs that were not fixed:
- regardless of the setting, the screen still reduces brightness before sleep
- the computer doesn't use the given password when connecting to a TTLS 802.11x network and thus asks for a password every startup

This has been resolved with the release of v1.5.1 (and it's faster).

I have a Logitech Mx700 and I had the mouse button 8 mapped to Dashboard, but since the update it pulls up the Application-Switcher window as well. Very annoying. Does anyone know how to override this? Yes button 8 is still selected in the Dashboard prefs!

Select another button in the Dashboard prefs and then select button 8 again.

Anyone else having problems with Mail 2.0 after the update? When I try to send mail, Mail will not find the correct SMTP server to use and defaults to my .Mac account using "smtp.mac.com"

Printing to an HP LaserJet printer on a Windows network is hosed after the update. I use IP Printing which worked fine before. Now I constantly get a "Network Host XX.XX.X.XX is busy; will try again in 30 seconds." Works fine when printing from my windows machine.

Tried that! (Does not work )
And tried rebooting...

It seems that App-switcher is grabbing the button press before Dashboard gets to see it.

I noticed this as well with my Logitech mx1000. I love now that it is possible to bring up the app switcher with a mouse command, I have been wanting that since 10.3 came out, but I am shocked that it just took over a random mouse button and there is no preference to turn it on, off, or change button assignment. There has to be a hidden terminal command though. Hopefully someone on MacOSXhints will figure it out soon.

Anyone else having problems with the menus on the Dock? If I right-click on a dock item, its menu comes up but the Dock freezes and doesn't do anything until I click on the Apple menu or anything else on the top menu. Then the dock unfreezes. I can't right-click the Dock anymore.

• The QuickTime plugin still can't seem to remember the last folder you selected in the save dialog. Instead, the default is the root level of your hard drive (just like the OS 9 days).

• If Mail is a login item and you asked for it to be hidden, the window will still appear.

• Scrolling still seems hesitant in a few cases...in the Finder.

• Window resizing is still slow.

10.4.2 completely killed my dahsboard. None of my widgets will work. As soon as I activate dashboard and put a widget out, the OS pops up the "application unexpectedly crashed" box and will keep popping that up in a loop until you close the widget.

None of the widgets work, apple supplied or otherwise. Super annoying!

When my PowerBook wakes from sleep, my Logitech MX 518 mouse stops tracking. The buttons and scroll wheel work, but I can't move the cursor. Once I unplug it and then plug it back in, it works correctly.

Great. iDisk still appears offline when switching networks (sync arrows greyed out). Remedy: Quit the Finder and relaunch it.
