Does anyone know of an alternative to Entourage 2008 for Exchange compatibility in Mac OS X? Entourage is literally the worst application I've ever installed on my Mac. If it's running, all other apps get unusable. It's the worst processor hog I've ever seen. Awful, awful application. (Have I gone on long enough?)

SMTP isn't opened up on the firewall, so IMAP solutions aren't viable.

Any other ideas? I've been using a remote desktop to a Vista machine at work and a virtual XP machine at home. It's sad that an entire OS + Outlook still runs better than Entourage 2008 on my MBP.

Evolution does require OWA to be enabled to work with Exchange, but there is also this MAPI plugin that might be worth trying:

It looks like that plug is not shipped by default with Evolution since it's still a work-in-progress and isn't stable yet, so hopefully the Exchange server you use has OWA enabled?

Here is a little tutorial on getting Evolution to work this way:

Thanks. OWA is turned on, but for some reason "Exchange" isn't a setup option when configuring a new account. I guess I'll need to hit up Google and see if I can find an answer.

How does Evolution run on the Mac via X11? I currently use Thunderbird for just a few IMAP accounts so that would be my point of comparison with Evolution.

I haven't tried it Cold Warrior, I just know it to be an Outlook clone, but I wouldn't be surprised if it provided better Exchange support than Entourage. I've read stuff about its support breaking between releases of either Exchange server or the client itself, but then again the rate of improvement of Entourage is so incredibly slow that it might make sense to bail on it. From what I can gather the iPhone's Exchange support is much better in comparison to Entourage, which is rather ironic.

Then again, I think Entourage sucks in general, so maybe I'm just biased.

To say Entourage sucks isn't just your opinion, besson3c. It's an irrefutable statement of absolute fact. Entourage is possibly the worst application on the platform. There are trojans that I'd rather have on my computer.

I've been using Entourage for years. Never once had an issue with it.

That said, it needs....something. An update, a facelift...something. I'm bored with it. There's nothing technically wrong with it, but I feel there should be something better than this.

And before people yell "Mail.app!", it doesn't do three-pane viewing, and that Letterbox plugin hasn't been updated in two years.

Doesn't Snow Leopard come with full Exchange compatibility ?

Maybe worth the wait...

I have tried a ton of email programs at it seems none of them work for me! So now, I'm just sticking with the GMail online client and have 4 Google Notifiers.

Thunderbird 3 beta is very nice, I like it. I just wish it had built in redirect support...

Does Thunderbird 3 support Exchange natively, or does it need a plugin in order to support it?
