Help - my daughter can't get her Mac G4 tower to start up correctly. Suddenly, when she boots up, all she gets is a black screen and the curser. Can't open the CD tray and is stuck. Anyone have a suggestion here?

I gave her my old computer as I just got a new G5.....

What happens when you try to open the CD drive? Is the screen just blank black, or is there some writing? I can think of a couple possible solutions but they may be more drastic than is necessary.

She just e-mailed me and said she got it working - I had suggested a couple of things, such as restarting from the Mac disc, Norton, etc. and also to open with the extensions off and one of these worked. She did not say which one. when I hear I will let you know.

Thanks.
