What user are OSX's housekeeping cron jobs (log rotation, etc) run under? I can't find them in the crontabs for any of the users listed in NetInfo.

root runs them kinda...
there is no crontab for the user root, but crontab is configured to run anyting in this file /etc/crontab as root.
it's kinda like linux has the cron.daily folder and if you put shell scipts in there, cron will run them.
hope that helped
good luck

Thanks, that's good to know! My background is Linux and SYSV, so BSD is a new experience for me. I'm learning new things all the time.

Kinda trivial, but there actually is a root crontab, just like for every other user, in addition to the /etc/crontab file.
I prefer using the regular root crontab file because it's easily accessible with the crontab command, while /etc/crontab is unfortunately not.
