So often I'll be working on it, and people will stop and say, "Gosh that's a big computer"

I'll turn and say, "Its a big computer for a BIG man!"

I haven't used my PowerBook much in public, but when I had the original 15", people came up to me and talked about it _all_ the time. It was cool, but a bit scary in a way.

The size seems normal to me now, but I can see why people who haven't used one would consider it big.

I'm running a puny 12" PowerBook. I've used it at the uni library a couple of times before, and I don't think many people have noticed. Or maybe I'm oblivious to it all. I know, for sure, that nobody has said anything to me.

I think 12" is too small, and a bit too fat. 15" would do me just nice.

I found that any apple computer leaves a BIG impression on people, as my mom runs a business at home, many a time people come in our house, see our 'office' and have gone nuts over my computer.

I hope to get a powerbook that's as monolithic as my powermac in the future.. in fact.. it's likely not too far off from now. The one question I actually have heard quite often is:

"so why do you use an apple?"

... because it works for me like no other computer could

I have a feeling with a powerbook I'd be wanting to hit the local restaruants + cafes just to get the stares.. I like being stared at.. in a good way

As for the original subject, I have an ol' TiBook 500Mhz (which is banged more than my MTB), and got a "wow, check out the new powerbook" the other day. I had to tell him it's nearly 3 years old.

For a short time I had a 12" Powerbook, then I found out that new ones were on the way so what did I do? Sold it on eBay so I could wait for a new one. hehe Anyway when I would take that puppy around work or just out a lot of times people would make cracks about Macs. I would then turn the powerbook torwards then and say"try it out" I would say about 90% of the time they would change their minds and say "Oh yeah I guess I like macs, they are pretty cool" All that by just playing with the finder a couple games and iTunes. I laugh at the ignorance that people have torward Macs, they have know Idea what they are like but will talk s**t about them until they get their hands on one. Apple made a wise choice when they opened retail stores.

i agree that there has to be a lot of esoteric "bang for the buck" when you spend this kind of money
but......
when the pc forums find this thread, it'll be posted in every piece of Dell and Gateway and Vaio literature printed for the next 5 years....

and we won't like that one bit

Milwaukee is such a blue-colar city that I can go into many different coffee shops without seeing a single laptop. Sometimes I will see the token IBM thinkpad from the mid-90's, but nothing fancy. (The Altera on the lake is one exception.)
