OK, the bottom line is that Windows Media Player for mac is terrible. Are there any other apps available for playing ASF movies? How about converting them into a format that Quicktime can play? Any other such suggestions? thanks.

There's no other players...
But there is (PC only) apps that will convert asf to avi.

I don't know more than this.
