Hello all -

I'm running 10.4.6 here in the office. We've made the (foolish?) decision to work from a central, Windows-based file server. When working in Illustrator, I can save any file perfectly happily to this server. However, if I make any changes and then use the File>Save (apple-S) I have a reported -47 error from within Illustrator. This is repeatable.

The odd thing? If I use File>Save as (shift-apple-S) and use the same file name, the save is carried out perfectly. Also, if I save with a different filename, we have no issues.

My semi-official network support is - as you'd expect from a M$-apologist - no (expletive deleted) use at all. So any thoughts would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

c

PS - Don't get me started on Office deciding to corrupt any open files when losing the network connection on sleep. Really, don't. I've already killed two doe-eyed kittens because of this problem and am giving serious consideration to going postal in my neighbourhood....

As a former sys admin, I instructed our typesetters and graphic artists to copy the file locally, make changes, save to local filesystem and then drag n' drop the file to the server.

This was 2 years ago and apparently the same issues persist in Illustrator. Quark had similar issues.

I have no affinity towards kittens put please don't kill anymore.

Thanks SMacTech - you've hit the nail on the head I think. There seems to be an issue - accepted by Adobe - that Illustrator 10 has this issue. Their advice is similar to yours - or pay them a wad a greasy tenners to buy an upgrade.

Kittens are safe for now - but if one more Microsoft app crashes on me, there'll be a kitten-apocalypse. Damn their cute eyes and furry little knees

Thanks again SMacTech.
