City transit directions do not work in Toronto, Canada. Neither does street view as I guess we don't have it yet.

It looks to me like Google doesn't even have transit schedules for Toronto on the web so I guess that makes sense. They have full transit scheduling for Vancouver so I hope it works here (still downloading the update).

Well transit in Vancouver works great and everything is nice and new feeling again. One thing I can't figure out is where to go to mail a link to my location.... I swore I saw that not only online but in the list of updates in iTunes. I figured that it would be in Maps but I don't see it.

edit: I figured it out - to share your location you have to drop a pin first then tap the arrow over on the pin.

I've noticed a problem with the upgrade, though. All of a sudden I keep getting errors that say ""The sender address was invalid". Not good. Yay.

I had a jailbroken 2.1 and was doing just fine for a while. Had a problem earlier this week that put my phone out, had to restore (and it didn't want to, lemme tell you that). Couldn't get a jailbroken one to install so went with the real thing (which again, took a lot of coercion). Decided to wait until 2.2 before trying anything again.

Installing now. Will post results. Biggest thing for me is the emoji... did they make it in? No reports yet but I reckon those of us in Japan are the only ones interested in that particular addition.

edit: emoji! damn straight. it looks good too. finally no more unreadable characters from everyone who sends me mail.... finally i can stop saying making excuses for the iphone. finallly my friends will stop bitching...

And I spoke too soon on this issue. The resolved some major issues with the whole messages going unreadable but the emoji from other carriers still don't work.

Not perfect but it's a start.

Street view is awesome. If they just covered more of the planet!

I'm not sure I like the Google search bar in Safari. Somehow everything seems more cramped now and at best I save one tap. Was there any other reason for doing that than the fact that Eric Schmidt is on Apple's board?

Is it worth restoring before upgrading? Just got my iPhone 2 days ago so I wouldn't mind backing up, restoring and put everything back if I'm sure I won't lose anything.

Drop a pin. Click the icon to the left of the pin's label. If it's greyed out there's no street view available there.

I am also getting the "Cannot Send Mail. The sender address was invalid" message. Quite frustrating.

I like the ability to browse and download Podcasts from the iTunes store.
Maps with walking and subway directions are brilliant.

Wow I love the StreetView!

My App Store has lost the ability to check for updates though... I can still download apps in the top 25 list but when I go to the Updates tab it searches and searches and finally says it Cannot connect to iTunes Store. :-[

This is true. It is only happening with my Gmail account. .Mac seems to send fine. Dammit, Google!

I would also like to add that it only happens over WiFi. Items sent over the cellular network are fine.

I think not. But we gained street view, auto-correct disabling (which is nice), and podcast downloading! Goody gumdrop.

Safari seems more stable after 10-12 hours of use, but when using multiple tabs and switching between them, the page STILL reloads most times when a new tab is selected. This makes using Google Reader or reading a newspaper site a PiTA. Why can't they get this right?

Post update, I can't delete emails from an IMAP account, POP is ok though.

"Unable to Move Message
The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash."

appeared along with a picture of a sad clown.

okay, not the clown.

nevermind...

After re-selecting the Trash location in the IMAP account, it was back to normal.

It's because of the limited RAM, not software.

I have been having minor issues with the App Store. It seems to not be showing updates correctly.

I don't think so. I'll be on pageA and will click a link that opens pageB in another window. I have observed pages in other tabs do not load in the background. Together with the auto-reload when you switch to another tab I find that a real PITA. In fact, it makes tabs pretty useless IMHO.

That would at least explain it. I haven't heard that anywhere else. If it's a hardware limitation, at least I get that. If it's just a software thing, it's as infuriating as first-thought.

If the NY Times app were frequently updated or even in the realm of usability (even on wi-fi), the tab thing would be less of an annoyance.

That's due to the way the redirect is done. PageA links open a click tracking redirect page in pageA that then opens a new window to pageB. What will avoid that is pageA links that open a new window first then redirect. Though the problem is compounded by Safari's inability to load in the background which would let pageA go back while pageB opens in a new window and is why desktop browsers don't have a problem with it.

My install wouldn't verify (just sat there on the barber pole) so I disconnected and had to restore screwing up the order of all my apps. Lovely.

Safari is MUCH more stable now, having tested 2.2 for a day, at least with the sites I visit on a regular basis. That alone makes the update worthwhile. Other pluses: Setting loads faster, contacts seems to be smoother where scrolling is concerned, and the ability to download podcasts via phone.

I'll second that. Haven't had a Safari crash since I updated. And the UI definitely feels a lot more responsive. But I'm still a bit hesitant to believe that will stay so. Sometimes a simple reset makes things more responsive too. But if it stays this responsive after another two weeks I'll give the 2.2 update a big thumbs up.

I have found one small bug. Sometimes the "clear" button in SMS's is greyed out for no reason.

WHAT??? I think it's the coolest thing I've ever seen on a computer and twice as cool on the iPhone. I feel like I can visit places all over the world from where I sit. And it helps you find stuff you are actually going to look for, and for re-visiting places you've already been. I think it's the ultimate killer app for the iPhone. I'd buy it just for googleMaps even if it didn't have a phone, internet, email, etc etc etc attached. A gps-map/satellite/street-viewer is going to seem second-nature someday, but in 2008 it blows me away. What do you mean "what's the point"?

It's handy when trying to find directions in an area with poorly marked streets. Landmarks can be very helpful.

Every single time I download 2.2 the software says it's corrupt and refuses to do the upgrade.

I even brought my laptop into work, and it's doing the same thing here too.

You'd hope they could at least upload the file correctly. :-(

Is there any other way to get the file? Surely if someone else here has downloaded a working copy (presumably from some other mirror which isn't broken), it would be possible to snag that somehow.

Maps is in Km not Miles when UK is set in the international settings!! Km are useless!
