I would disagree. I would prefer at least the ClearCase before that black thing and I know I am not swapping to a ClearCase anytime soon.

I guess I am conservative or just anti-PC but when you start swapping out cases and they don't capture Apple design... it's basically as bad a PC to me.

At least the clear case has some reminants of Apple design. The back case looks like my garbage can next to my desk. I just have to find the step to open the lid.

Agreed, velodev. Despite the advantages (reduced need for cooling, more room for graphics cards, etc), I just think the PowerLogix case isn't nearly as good looking as Apple's original Cube case.

It's difficult for your cube to be unique when your cube looks like every other cube.

I guess if you're happy owning the same thing that thousands of others own - more power to you. Maybe you can wash your Camaro this weekend if the weather is nice.

Well, you already have the clear acrylic by virtue of owning a cube. You, and thousands of other cube owners, I should add.

A black cube, while taking a chance at being offensive to some folks, is *at least* unique when compared to other cubes - something that can't be said for a standard-issue clear acrylic cube.

I have a Cube and I cannot picture it in that enclosure, it instantely loses everything which makes the Cube cool in the first place. Maybe the clearcube case.. but still.. bah- I dunno.

The Cube isn't exactly a common computer. It's not like everyone I know has a Cube, and they're all looking for ways to make theirs unique. It's special enough in its original casing.

Of course, you could transplant the beautiful Cube into a crappy looking case and paint some flames on it to make it look awful, but oh-so-unique if you really want that. Whatever works for you man.

That depends on whose ass you are refering to. While I myself also would not get the black one, I did get the clear powerlogix case. I also "wrapped" the interior in a metallic grey/graphite colored paper, and added a nice "carbon fiber look" apple logo decal where the original logo was. I think it looks quite "spiffy" and more "modern". Plus, now it looks customized, to go along with the internal mods I have done. I like it more than the original.

I think that buying a premade case mod does not make the cube any more individualized, simply by the fact that more than one said case was made and sold.

However, replacing the disc drive with one of those clocks with LEDs on a fast-moving arm that appears to make the time float would be really cool.

Well, I was an original owner of a Cube and if I still owned it, it would be sitting in that case. I think it is nice looking.

Take a gander at eBay... people are paying anywhere from $500 to over $1000 for a cube these days.

Modifications are documented well and with a little capital a cube could outrun some (keyword, some!) PowerMac's these days.

Also, the cube sits in the Smithsonian for a reason...

Right. And that aftermarket case has *nothing* to do with that reason.

I've never had someone see my Cube and say "Meh. Yet another Cube." It's typically more like "hey-a Cube. Cool." Hence, the desire to transform it into a different case is lost on me.

I can see that functionally, it may have some improvements - but it'll destroy the collectibility of your Cube. I'd definitely save the original case and make sure I didn't make any mods that I couldnt' reverse.

another vote for the black acrylic case....it's the 3rd iteration they've done, the first all Aluminum was my favorite, but if I was stuck with an original cube and half-assed upgrade pricing on old tired video cards I'd do it too....

functional and attractive, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder...sorta like picking a girlfriend...and i'll stop the analogy w/o more detail

Who knows what the next run will be....if there's enough demand to support another run?

The Cube is certainly not as common as a Camaro, and to insinuate otherwise is a joke. First, with only 2.5% of the PC market-share, any Apple computer is about as rare as a Ferrari. That puts the commonality of the Cube somewhere in line with that of the F-40. Now, when's the last time you saw one of those driving around? (Don't let the fact that you are in the Newport Beach Ferrari Club influence the reality of the situation).

And, none of the after-market cases for the Cube even come close to the beauty of the original.
