Upstate NY and 90 F and plenty of humidity. And I love it. Everyone's crying about how hot it is, and it doesn't bother me in the least.

It stayed pretty cool in Austin today. But usually it gets to about 102 with mild humidity.

Since I just started living on my own, I'm trying to find ways to lower our electricity bill. Last month's was over $100, for a 800 sq. foot apartment.

I'm about 200 miles south of you. Weather.com says 95F, but it was just over 100 at school. My T-Storm weather professor grew up in Prescott and says this is the latest it has ever been this hot. We almost got monsoon season started this weekend, but the High moved off and brought in drier air for the next week. You might get lucky and get a T-storm today or tomorrow, but the rain would probably evaporate before it hit the ground. Next weekend another High pressure is supposed to move in over Eastern Utah/ 4 corners area, so we might get some moisture from the Gulf to come up and cool us off.

It would really suck to be in Phoenix. It's been well over 100 every day since mid-June. http://www.weather.com/outlook/recre...opnav_outdoors

It was 30 degress Celsius here, in Montreal. I did 120 km on my bicycle in about 4 hours and drank 4 liters of liquid.

I may do that again tomorrow...

Right now it is 3:09 AM and 25 deg C and oh so humid. In the daytime it is 35 deg C and incredibly humid. Laundry takes more than 40 hours to dry when hanging outside. In the end of July we are expecting about 40 deg C. The fan is on 24/7 and aircondition all night. It is the price of life by the coast. On the upside I can cool down in the afternoon in the Meditarranáneo.

cheers

Been in the mid-to-upper 90's (~35c) here in Colorado. I've been living in the UK up until a year ago so am not used to the extended heat.

I prefer the cold.

Yep, rain passed us by. We saw the clouds though, so that was nice. Looks like it is supposed to be over a hundred degrees a day for us for the next few weeks still.

I remember the days in Phoenix... I lived there for two years when going to college. I worked outside at a carwash, so I got to feel every one of those hot days. Now I have a nice cushy job where I sit all day in a climate controlled office.. can't say I miss the weather in Phoenix. Nice city though.

iDriveX, I can use both F and C. Right now it's 88ºF/31ºC, with an expected high of 96ºF/~36ºC. The humidity is at about 58%, but I expect it to rise as the day goes on. This is MUCH better than through the past few weeks, where we skirted 100ºF/38ºC just about every day. A lady I correspond with in Toronto said that during the week it got to 44ºC!!! Dang! What's up with that? It's not supposed to be hotter in Toronto than in Texas... That's just WRONG.

Currently 86 degrees, but it's the humidity that makes it so uncomfortable.

No. Why don't you learn to use the metric system? Actually, "the rest of the civilized world" uses Celsius. The US is one of the only countries left in the world that's still using imperial measurements.

The US should switch, or at least make sure to teach and practice both systems.

EDIT: Fixed 'empirical.''

Wrong term. I think you meant "Imperial" measurements, and that only applies to liquid measure. The U.S. officially uses Celcius, but has not forced everyone here to adopt and internalize it. This has avoided some issues, such as when Britain switched to metric measures and there was an outpouring of wrath about "messing with the pint!" It also tells you something about the person; some folks work to blend in, others don't bother, and still others don't understand.

If you mention a "quid" or a "guinnea," I get the gist of your statement, even though those terms went out with shillings and farthings. On the other hand, do you understand what a double eagle is? It is all simply sociocultural difference, no different from calling the same thing the "loo," the "head" and/or the "john."

Yes, imperial measurements. Well if we officially use Celsius, broadcasters should show us both measurements. It would go a long way towards helping people understand the system and make changes.

Broadcasters don't show both because audiences don't want that. In places where the common use of metric measures was mandated, they did that...and a lot of people still resent it.

I personally try to keep Celcius in mind, but I grew up with Farenheit, but it's an old, deep habit and thus hard to break. I DO think (somewhat) in meters and grams, but that's a different issue.

But broadcasters should also be concerned about making positive contributions to society. It certainly wouldn't hurt to show a F/c measurement at some point in the broadcast.

If broadcasters were interested in journalism, your point would be valid. Today it's all about "infotainment." Nuff said? I'd like to see more reference to Celcius/meter/gram stuff everywhere, but unfortunately until the audience as a whole demands it, the broadcasters just won't bother.
