Time to upgrade. Any comments on which of the available cells work best with Isync? I thinking of the new S/E T 637 via bluetooth or the Motorola V600 with USB.

I think most people will have a subjective response. I'd say the Nokia 6600 because I use it and have no problems whatsoever.

Bearing in mind that my opinion on this subject is completely subjective: I use a Sony Ericsson T616 that has worked flawlessly for me. I would recommend this phone highly. YMMV.

FWIW, my S56 works well - annoyingly, however, the phone doesn't understand "companies" and so all companies show up as _,_ in the phone. - Also, i'm not a huge fan of the phone's buttons themselves.

I just wish Nokia (or anybody, really) would come out with a good, small, non-camera, blue tooth phone. (the upcoming Nokia 2650, if it had bluetooth, would be ideal, (and seemingly easy for iSync since it uses vCals and vCards)).

Best BT phones that work with iSync:
SE K700i
SE T637/Z600
Nokia 6600

If you can't have a camera, then the Siemens S55/S56.

There are a couple Nokias that are BT w/o camera but they don't work with iSync until Tiger, which supports SyncML.

I had a Sony Ericsson T610 and iSynced all the time without any problems. The K700i is also very good, but I'll wait until a few more syncs with iSync 1.5 before saying that its as bulletproof.

What's this SyncML stuff? Safe to say we'll see large growth in the number of iSync compatible cell phones with the release of Tiger?

SyncML is a open & standard protocol (organized by Nokia) for synchronizing data between devices, across networks and over the internet. So, theoretically, supporting SyncML in Tiger will support a lot more bluetooth phones, especially Nokias. Only time will tell for sure though.

Currently, SyncML supports:
Contacts: vCard format (Address Book)
Calendar: vCal formal (iCal)
Memos: text/plain
Tasks: vTodo
E-Mail: message/rfc

Ok - follow up question: Would SyncML allow me to sync a non-bluetooth phone over (e.g.) the internet? or IRDA? (it's hard to find a phone with bluetooth that doesn't have a camera in it these days - and there are some especially tempting models out there that lack bluetooth - the Nokia 2650 is probably at the top of that list for me...)

It *should* -- if Apple implements it the way it was designed, and the 2650 can sync over the net. (Actually, I don't even think the 2650 supports SyncML at all.)

d'oh.

Well it sounds promising at the very least - thanks! (hopefully the cell phone companies will realize many of us don't want/can't have a camera in our phones, but that we still want things like bluetooth and slick design)

Do the SE 637. I just picked one up as an upgrade to my old t610, definitely a great phone.

You'll be so much happier with the 630/637. The screen alone is worth it (you wont be able to see the t616 screen at all outdoors).

All glory to the hypnotoad.
