Thought I'd pass this tip I found along... a client sent me a Pages document but I don't have that. All I needed was the simple text. This google result simply saved the day:

How to open .pages files on a computer without iWork TERAVOXEL

Who knew? Turn a pages doc into a zip, and it's a folder with a PDF inside!

Yep! Microsoft .docx files, OpenOffice .sxw files, and OpenDocument .odt files are all secret zip files as well. If you drag them onto Pacifist, it will open all of them for you.

It's a great way to embed an unlimited amount of resource files à la OS X's application bundles while still keeping the file as a flat file that's easy to send via media such as e-mail.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
