I've just changed my default FireFox search engine from Goog to Search Engine Duck Duck Go
[a link to make the default switch appears on any page of search results on DDG, Safari seems to require extra hoops be jumped through.]

MAN! do I like the type of site results for my searches: *way* less prominence of commercial sites and a lot more interesting, useful, mind-opening sites.

It leaves me asking, "Must we keep letting *information value* get trumped by Page Rank commercialism?

What about the rest of you? You use DDG? Some other search process?

Yes, I use DDG all the time.
And FWIW, I *love* having the other Safari features that Glims (plug-in that lets you set DDG/etc as your search engine in the Safari address bar [ Glims for Safari | www.MacHangout.com <- 3MB DL for Glims ].
Glims also gives my Safari the "Reopen with previous tabs" that FireFox provides.
So, Yes! ...to both DDG & Glims!

Yeah, the geeks at Hacker News Hacker News | Duck Duck Go is starting to get coverage have been hot for Duck for a while, and just got pumped up again after a TechCrunch note of Duck/Cuil connection:
If Cuil Was Cool, Cuiler Is Cooler, And Cuilest Is The Coolest

An interesting charge to level. Sorry I've been so absent: MacNN just isn't as central to my needs any more as Hacker News.

[ Unclear if you feel that I'm "spamming" for HN or DDG*, but !whatevuh! ]

*or maybe TechCrunch? ( i can't actually remember purchasing stock in any of 'em)

They don't have the separate images searches (and probably *nothing* like the google caches of images).

But I tried DDG search of "images obama" and found that it's interesting the different categories in which they put the results.

One problem with my Safari and DDG is that search entries that I put in the address-bar search field do *not* open duckduckgo.com, but not with what I entered in the address-bar - just the DDG home page.

Guess they've got more quirks to iron out.

Interesting design. Don't know that I'm a fan of the 'never-ending search results page' - seems a bit difficult at first glance to filter search results, but it may be something I just need to adjust to.

Very interesting results, though the layout could improve a lot IMHO.

When searching my own name...

Duck Duck Go: 3 of the top 6 search and 5 of the top 13 results are actually about me.
Google: I don't appear until result 8 and 2 of the top 13 results are actually about me.

Google wins.
