My vote goes to these:

Any Mac II:

The Under the monitor box like the 7100's:

Blue and White towers (great idea to give the pro consumers iMac colours):

And the early iBooks. I would have liked it if the screen was bigger but instead when you opened it up you had 2 inches of plastic around the edge. The handle and latch-less opening was cool though:

I know most everyone is going to say the G3-all in one but it really wasn't that bad in a school environment. Better then a room full of Orange and green iMacs.

My vote would go to the powermac 4400, it was truly the BEIGE box. And it was cheap and looked cheap and had cheap parts.

Aww common! That is one is one of the coolest designs ever! It was the first taste of transparent plastics that would later be really trendy!

Plus Batgirl had one.

It had Macintosh on the outside... I may be wrong... At the time, I thought it looked cool, but now that I'm older, it looks ugly...

I'll be honest... even the TAM (20th Anniversary Macintosh) doesn't look that cool anymore.

I give respect to those that have them, but it looks a little "Dell Like" by todays standards.

That's the 8100/9100 series tower, and far from the ugliest apple ever!

Nope, this is an 8100:

It's Workgroup Server 9150 I think. 9000-series PowerMacs started with the 9500.

And I agree with SWG that the B&W G3 is the ugliest ever.

I'd take a room full of green imacs any day (not so sure about orange, however).

My fav imac CRT was the blue dalmation. For some reason not seeing the guts made the machine seem nicer.

Otherwise I prefer the g4 imac. The g3 form factor was one of the weirdest computers I've ever seen (except for the eOne)

G3s were cool.. the only el capitan case I didn't really like was the graphite one.

The performa monitors with the speakers on the bottom AND the ones on with them on the sides were the UGLIEST monitors ever... well except 1980's japanese ripoffs...

Absolutely the ugliest, gayest, stupidest and moronic idea ever by Apple. People who didn't think Apple was stupid did after that.

Its what happens when you run out of ideas i guess.

We've a Flowerpower & a Dalmation.
Everyone who sees them is blown away. So there!
BEST macs ever made.
Way removed from the oh so kasual korporate loft-living office boy tosh fodder that passes as design a la GEE 5 '80's habitat wastebaskets.

I think those were 2 cool looking iMacs. They had there market which was for kids, not teenage boys that are so insecure that it might make them look gay.

The G5's have a very cool look. It really does look like something from a 70's Sci-Fi set. Plus with the side off it is stunning.

Design dept: "well we have just finished this LC case, I suppose we could just bulk it up a bit.
There may be some expansion & access issues though."
Enginer:"Yep that sounds good, can you turn it around real quick. We can work out any issues during testing."

But you have to go a long way to beat the PPC 440. In the dark years when Apple was getting beaten to death by the cloners it attempted to go for the low end market, somehow they managed to create something worse than the cloners, but somehow still the most expensive?

I'll wager that new products coming along will feature colour( Scots Sp!) perhaps even some (heaven forbid) patterns & textures -ipod mini is a welcome but piddling return to a 'look different' agenda.

The hardware products need to be much 'more' radical in appearance. The towers are an abysmal total yawn, & have been since the b/w

You say colo(u)r - I say yes please.

Well a couple that were not so much UGLY but STUPID was when the PowerPC first shipped. They just stuck them in the old 6100 case when it was supposed to be a turning point for Mac.

Same goes for the G3's. They stuck them in 7000 series and tower cases. Stupid.

I thought that the eMate was the first Apple product with input from Ive's. <looks in AppleDesign book to check on hunch>No I was wrong. So Apple was on the Transparent Plastic thing before Ive's arrived, interesting.

But dear god I think we have a winner, I present the Performa 6400
it's just so bland, with no redeeming features.

I think the original iBook, and the wacky colored iMacs were some of the coolest computer designs ever. Seriously.

I liked the B&W G3 towers too.

I don't like the quicksilvers and MDDs very much ... THAT to me seemed like they were running out of ideas. (just style, not actual hardware design)

But only only Macs I thought were just flat out embarrassing were the Performa 6400/6500 towers.

I think those models made apple look cheap.

I thought that was rather groundbreaking. At the time all other towers had no rounded corners, plus that tower was a good performer and dirt cheap next to all other Mac towers. Didn't it also have a sub woofer built into the bottom?

Not really, I like the pizza box ones and the Mini Towers were also cool. The colour classic still looks good.
