What other people do in the privacy of their bedrooms (or back of the car or wherever I don't have to watch) is of little concern to me. You want to wait, wait. You want to get laid whenever you can, that's ok with me too.

Just don't impose your standards onto my life.

I'm thinking along the lines of:

[ ] Yes.
[ ] No; I waited.
[ ] No, and I intend to wait.
[ ] No, but I don't intend to wait.

What if you got married to a hussie in Vegas, had a crazy night and divorced the next day?

Does that count?

Now days, marriage seems to be more of a tax break than anything else.

Fewer and fewer people seem to be getting married for the right reasons.

I'd like to know if the average time people date before getting married has changed, because my unscientific observation has been the people who get married still do so rather early in relationships (Even if its later on in their lives).

From my observations, Christians get married a lot sooner than non. I'm betting this is because they have to tie the knot before they can "do the dew," but non-Christians often don't feel like they have to.

It's an interesting thought. It would certainly make them more susceptible to a higher divorce rate, putting them on par perhaps with non-practicing folks.

a) |Not since I got married

b) depends on how you define 'sex' (or 'engage') (or, for that matter 'have')

Yes, I had premarital sex. Only because marriage wasn't an option for gays at the time.

Who am I kidding, I would have anyways.

Define "sex." Define "virgin." Define "marri... wait, I think I've got that one covered.

In other words, I'm kinda in a gray area. You know, cuz I'm sure everyone in the Lounge was intensely curious.

And as a completely random sidenote, I'm fricking cold. I thought Arizona was supposed to be hot?

Any ramblings are entirely my own, and do not represent those of my employers, coworkers, friends, or species

As a basic rule, so long as you haven't penetrated someone you're a virgin.

Among those who have been married, more than one out of every three (35%) have also been divorced. One out of every five adults (18%) who has ever been divorced has been divorced multiple times. That represents 7% of all Americans who have been married.
It took me a while to find that.

And Adam Carolla on LoveLine said that a guy could penetrate without losing his virginity, but with girls it's a lot shadier.

Personally I think people put too much emphasis on intercourse itself. I think too many people put it up on a pedestal but figure it's okay to do anything they want up to that point, which, IMO, is just as bad.

I know this isn't what you're saying, but you're quoting him as a source?

That sword cuts both ways. Hence the derision towards premarital virginity.

I don't follow.
Born again Christians have the same likelihood of divorce as do non-Christians.
Among married born again Christians, 35% have experienced a divorce. That figure is identical to the outcome among married adults who are not born again: 35%.

Mmm... I read it funny.

I was thinking that the married people had already experienced a divorce.

BTW, is this not way out of line of most statistics that project divorce at over 50%?

Are there actually any?
If so I'd bet they figure that while 50% of marriages might end in divorce, they include the 'repeat offenders' in that tally. This study doesn't do that.

I've been hearing that number since the 80s (So I should be able to find something on the web here in a moment).

That second part is a good question (and I do believe remarriers face a 70-80% divorce rate)

Gossamer, your statement appears to stand:
...that the percentage of all marriages that eventually end in divorce peaked in the United States at about 41% around 1980, and has been slowly declining ever since, standing by 2002 at around 31%...
(At least if you trust the New York Times)
