My neighborhood has been experiencing an increasing number of power outages and "blinks" over the past month and the power company is telling me they're not seeing anything obviously wrong with their system.
While I'm waiting for my UPS to arrive, is there a log I can review to see how frequently this has been happening, or something to indicate an improper shutdown? I've reviewed the console but didn't see anything that appeared to be what I needed.

Nope... In the event of an improper shutdown the shutdown signal would not be logged, I'm pretty sure.

At every boot, there is an entry in the kernel.log indicating the previous shutdown cause. Zero is a normal shutdown.

I stand corrected!
In enlightening myself I also came across this listing of error codes, which seem to coincide:

Many thanks to you both! I have a number of
Code:
Previous Shutdown Cause: 3
which seems to be related to unexpected shutdowns and a great record of my power issues. Thanks again!
