I was looking at buying a used Newton, but the seller indicates that when the backlight is used, it has the "Newtwon whir". I've never heard of this. Anyone have any idea what it is?

Thx,

The EL backlight is the same sort as used in Timex watches. Take a Timex, turn on the backlight, and hold it up to your ear. You'll hear a high-pitched whine. It's a much better backlight technology, but that's just part of the technology. It's not very noticeable in use, and certainly not enough to turn the head of anyone next to you.
