http://adiumx.com

seems to have truckloads of new things. some of the highlights for me thus far:
-status icons for people using their mobiles (no more "oops, i didn't realize i was sending a link to your phone" apologies)
-support for encrypted chat.
-revamped interface. the preferences make a lot more sense now. mostly.
-i no longer experience slowdown on this version when i select text or use the menu.
-woah. it also seems to support larger buddy icons. at least, i have someone's icon from my addressbook and it shows up huge when i mouse over his name.

I've used Adium since the beginning of time (it's time) And Have always loved it even when it's at the most limited stage. I've never been one to send a lot of files or do any weird Audio/video chatting. I just like customization.

Nice, this is awesome. If file transfer actually works properly (never has for me with Adium except for one release a long long time ago) I might switch my company over from using iChat to using Adium.

Don't get your hopes up *too* much about file transfer. The underlying code hasn't changed much, just the interface on top of it. That said, some people have been having better luck with it, so it's worth trying.

Seems pretty nice. However, can't find the option to always have the contact list window in forefront. Anyone know where this option ventured to?

Try here: Prefs -> Advanced -> Contact List -> Order the contact list: -> Above other windows

File transfer is still damn buggy in Adium 0.80 and is something that has to work properly in a final 1.0 release. Getting an progress interface up is a good start but it has to work without crashing the poor app every other time!

Yes, very nice App. A lot more polished.

Now if only Horsepoo stays out of this thread.

Thanks! I completely overlooked that option since it seemed to be a child of the "Hide when Adium is in the background."

Am I missing it, or is it no longer possible to have dock icon notifications for when people sign on/off or message you? It's so convenient for when I want to keep it hidden or behind other windows so it doesn't interfere with what I'm working on.

It should be in events prefs (don't have Adium open atm so I'm not sure on that, but I think it's there).

I love this update. However whenever I send files over 250Kb in size the transfer slows down to only send every 2-3 seconds thus making a transfer take ages. This is over MSN.

I really like the new interface in Preferences. wicked. So many options so little time

It's in the events preferences, click the + icon and then add "Display name in the dock icon"

Love Adium. Hope someday It will support video and voice, and maybe, the games of MSN or Yahoo... Great product instead, makes my os x more convivable.

File transfer still sucks.

Boo.

The rest is spiffy though.

I think Adium is my favorite OS X App, then quicksilver. Two great free apps.

I'll live with File transfer oddities and random crashes. The crashes aren't SO bad because I kind of like the crash agent icon.

Well, can't do the games of MSN or Yahoo... but game support is something I'm working on See http://mykogames.info (currently in alpha, so expect bugs and incompleteness). Voice and video is waiting on the gaim-vv project.

A bug I am having, it's not showing "away" status in the icon in the dock.

Even though I have it set to.

The official AIM for Mac and iChat both do Direct Connect.

I'm not sure as I don't actually run 0.8 but I've been able to direct connect for awhile (right click on a person in the contact list and select Initiate Direct IM) maybe it's only been in SVN builds though.

So far I've been highly successful with AIM file transfers, but maybe that's just because I open my ports correctly. (even if iChat and AIM can do it through you're firewall doesn't mean Adium will work because Gaim and therefore Adium doesn't support sending files via UPnP [eh... I think that's the protocol name])

Which ports does Adium use for file transfers?
