No this is not kosher to post here, because it's about a quarter pounder with cheese.
Behind the scenes at a McDonald's photo shoot - YouTube
McDonald's explains why their burgers don't look anything like their ads. It's brilliant. They get free advertising by telling us how they fake the burger's looks.
P.S. The Photoshop retouching is done on an iMac, with an external Apple display.

That's oddly honest of them. Pretty cool.

I used to enjoy their fries and their milkshakes are also excellent but I can honestly say I haven't eaten a McDonalds for a good few years. At least 6 or 7.
I used to like the personal pizzas they sold in the UK back in the mid 90s for a short time. I would never waste my time with their burgers though and most of the other products they sell are crap too.

I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

I like their new fruit smoothies, and I also like their (high calorie) pies, for snacks when I'm driving on the highway.
And I like their fries too, but I never buy their burgers.

Most companies don't use their own products for food shots, it seems. For example, one popular substitute for ice cream is lard, like in this picture:

I always thought the food in advertising was plastic or clay modeled also... maybe it used to be. I think showing it is real food, the same as what you get in the restaurant, is a good idea. Also that bit with the bun propped up, genius.

And why should we believe anything Mcdonald's tells us?

Neat video. Leaves out some facts like how foods in these pictures are usually not cooked fully, which in the case of burgers means the patty in the ad looks bigger than the cooked version in real life.

The trick is to make people think they are being given honest answers. It's all the things they leave out...
Like, ok, so you use 100% beef. What is processing like? How many preserve chemicals are added? Salt?
What are the ingredients of your cookies? Where do you get your vegetables?
Mcdonald's has the lowest quality food that I can think of outside of a garbage pail. It's full of grease, salt, sugar, and chemicals. MSG, food coloring, sugar, artificial sweeteners...
To portray their food as healthy or even get excited about it is disgusting. If you go to their Website you'll see a host of really interesting questions that they DO NOT answer. They're just cherry picking. I'm passionate about this because I hate obesity and I want to see people healthy.

Back in the day the adco I worked at used to do a lot of food shots.
Obviously they can't use plastic, clay etc. In fact in the case of shots that are intended to depict the actual product (rather than generic glamour shots) they legally HAVE to use the actual ingredients, in the UK at least. There are no rules about HOW they use them though.
There are plenty of tricks, undercooking is always good. Spraying the meat with water, artful placing of ingredients towards the front. It could easily take us a whole day to shoot one food item, and that's before firing up Photoshop.
Honestly we made stuff that hyena's would vomit back up look edible. At the end of the day the food techs would offer round any unused food etc. Strangely there wasn't often any takers.
