I ordered by phone at the UK Apple Store on the 7th Jan.
I ordered a 12 inch AIPB, with Airport Extreme, 640MB and a Combo drive.
Order has an order date of 8th Jan (usually shows the day the credit card was processed).
The status is now showing 'Being Assembled', no idea about delivery date, but the Apple rep quoted 4-6 weeks to me. Not good news as the Apple site is quoting 2-4 weeks. My guess is that it will be 4 weeks to being shipped, then another 5 days for shipping.
I'm expecting mine around Monday 10th Feb.

Education institution customers (K-12, in my case) get a solid $300 off any new PowerBook! hehehe yay.
PowerBook G4 loaded (max everything but the SuperDrive), plus AP Extreme card and base, $1947. Can't wait! Too bad it still essentially belongs to the school! =(

Well, I went ahead and placed my order with the Apple store Japan. I had originally planned to wait until I sold my current computer, as well as some other things, but I have a feeling it is going to take a while to get, so I wanted to get the order in as soon as possible.
Apple Store Japan is also quoting 2-4 weeks, although since I got a maxed-out BTO version (640MB RAM, Airport Extreme, Superdrive, English keyboard instead of Japanese) I think it will take even longer. Part of me hopes it will take a while, because I have to find a way to pay for the darned thing!

This is only my assumption.
Apple said they are going to release new iLife on 25/01 and new PowerBooks will start shipping with it. So, Although the new 12" PowerBook G4s are being ready to ship, Apple will hold it until around later next week.
I am expecting mine shipping later next week. So, a lot of people who ordered on 7~8/01 could receive the tiny 12" PowerBook G4 at the last week of January.
I really hope I could take it with me forthcoming travel to Europe... Otherwise.... I do not even think about it...

I wish I had a job that gave me a Mac
Apple released the new power macs before Jaguar was out but they had jaguar on em. Hence iLife can be out on Macs before iLife is for sale for older people...
I acctually expect with iLife that new iMacs will be released... I know they were a huge step up from the iMacs of the time and 1 year might be reasonable to Jobs for not bumping em... but it's past a year so they'd better bump em..... not that I'm planning on buying one but... yeah.

I just saw my order status at apple online store saying that est. ship. is on or before 02/06/2003.
I ordered mine on 08/01/2003 with base model.
Does anybody have same situation?
Oh No!!! I can hardly wait for mine to ship till 02/06/2003...
Although it seems like I have no choice but Apple Store yet, I will try to find out other stores who can have it available faster...
Sigh.....

Heh, funky, the apple store order status page's format just changed to something new. I think they calculate that estimated date as something like order date plus max waiting time, because I ordered on 1/9 and mine says est ship is 2/7 or earlier.
Strange thing is the new order status page quotes me a lower tax rate... I like it already!

Maybe the dates were accidently switched...maybe it was supposed to say 06/02/03.
February 6 makes a lot more sense

W00t I am now in the waiting line game with you guys. I'm replacing a venerable Lombard 333 with a 12" bundle of aluminum goodness. My order processed today and my estimated shipping dat is on or before 2/14/03. It is a little later than I might like but I do get a chance to go to one of the Apple Stores and play with one before mine even ships. I went for a combo drive and a 60GB hard drive. If I got it on the 14th it would make quite a nice Valentines present.
No I will not adjust my typing of dates to satisfy people across the pond.

I presume that current estimated shipping date in apple order status page is pessimistic delivery date. How do you think about it?
It seems like apple is giving a month as a shipping time from the order date in maximum but I think they will start shipping later next week as Steve Jobs said during his keynote...
As long as I remember, it was similar case when I bought an iBook 500 CD on May, 2001... At that time, I was very discouraged due to late shipping date but they shipped earlier than expected...
I hope that can happen again... 4 weeks... it does not make sense at least for me...

Mine reads as on or before 2/11...uugghh!
If only I hadn't altered my order which was originally placed on 1/7...oh well, can't complain too much as the new machine should be quite a jump from my current G3/400 Pismo...

I helped my "BSD on a Vaio" pal realize he wanted to get his first Mac and am executing the transaction for him.

Yes, I'm happy doing this. Pull!

PS. I was literally five minutes ago thinking about this. This is
actually the first time I want to buy a computer for fun. Not work
related in any direct way. Just for fun. And I always liked Mac
stuff.

All of the superdrive equipped 12" machines will come with iLife won't they? (Not that it matters much, since the other components of iLife are going to be free downloads, and iDVD3 definitely comes with the superdrive equipped machines).

If you don't get iLife with your Superdrive equipped Macintosh, you can get it for free* (*$20 shipping and handling free applies) via the iLife up-to-date program.
Mind you, that means all other Macintoshes won't ship with iLife

Could 3rd party apple resellers get the new 12" PowerBook G4 faster than Apple Stores?
If it is true, I will cancel apple online order and buy it from them...

Looks like you're going to be one of the first PowerBook 12" owners on the planet! As I'm sure all here are waiting for a review, here's what I'd like you to tell us:
1) Heat
2) Battery life
3) Performance
4) Looks
5) AirPort extreme (if applicable)
6) General feel/use
Looking forward to it matey!!!

Congrats! Let us know what config you ordered and whether you bought Education or not.
By the way, when you checked order status, did you also receive email from Apple regarding a shipping notice and or invoice of charge (to your credit card?) Everything else I've ordered from apple has always been accompanied by an email notice (Seems like they're pretty good at this so far)..
Let us know,
Mike

hi
i was wondering where everyone checks if it has shipped or not.. i ordered from the german education store and even if i go to "user profile" i dont even see my order listet in there...
how come? is it because i ordered via phone? should i still be able to find my order in that part of the website?
a bit worried that they might have missed my order - well i paid and have confirmation by e-mail but no way to find out how my order is doing...
huh?

I ordered mine at apple online store on the 8th with base model in order not to delay. I alreay bought 512MB DDR ram.
I receiced an email from apple about shipment of my order.
Until yesterday, my order status says "on order before 02/06/2003 but it has been shipped and it is now coming from Taiwan.
Now, I am concerned time goes even slower than shipping notice from apple :-)

EDIT: It went back to open and shipping before 2/6/03 There trying to get me excited.

There has been an internal battle going on in my brain for the last few weeks. I really want to upgrade from my QS 733. But I have only had it for about 9 months so it has many good years left. If I purchased now, I probably wouldn't be able to purchase in the next few years and I kinda want to wait to buy until I begin my student teaching in 19 months. Oh..the struggle.
What do you all project the resale value of these to be?
