Since I couldn't get a conclusive answer from neither the local Apple Store (retail and web) nor Kensington, and it seems the web doesn't know the answer either, I am resorting to the MacNN folks hoping anyone here has any experience regarding Kensington locks and iMacs or knows anything that could be helpful.
I need to know if the Kensington lock slot on the back of the iMac (2009 model) fits the lock linked below which is supposed to be a laptop lock, but then I have to wonder if all those K lock slots on our Macs are pretty much the same thing.

That cable should work. However, may I suggest you just get a thick/hardened chain and (u)-lock(s) and use that instead. Why not make a 'statement' to everyone in the office.
Your local bicycle shop or hardware store should be able to help you out.
I just lock/loop the chain to the hole in the stand.

Yep, that lock is compatible. The "Kensington Lock Slot" is pretty standardized, and if a Mac has such a slot, a Kensington lock (and many other brands) will fit.
For a desktop computer, I agree that something more robust is in order. Even many of Kensington's travel locks are beefier than the one pictured, though they aren't as neatly portable.

Are you quite certain that the iMacs have a Kensington slot? My old alu one has one (black back), but I'm not so sure about the newer ones.
iMacs are usually secured by looping a lock cable through the hole in the stand.

Thanks for your responses.
Yes, there is a Security slot below where the power cord is attached to the rear side of the iMac. This is still the case for the current iMacs (Connections and Expansion.)
So, I did order it, will let you know if it does fit the 2009 iMac… but have also followed shabbasuraj' suggestion on making a statement with a bicycle lock, just in case.

Are you aware that the stand can be removed with just a torque screw driver ?

Only on the larger models, and not any more on this generation.
