I took these in my yard. Whadda ya think?

The purple one was photoshopped a little to brighten it up, the other was only re-sized.

You have some nice raw talent. What kind of camera are you using?

I REALLY dig the purple flower one.

Thanks. It's just a Fujifilm Finepix 3800. It's mainly a point and shoot camera but it has some manual controls too.

first one...
composition could be a little better...(interesting perspective though)
the flash is a little harsh...

second one...
again overall subject location and composition a little bland...
not bad though...

ye... DSLR is the way to go nowadays...

my skills and quality of my shots have dramatically improved when I got my D70....

I doubt the camera you had had anything to do with your skills or the quality of your shots. The pictures themselves may have looked better

Agreed. I don't find macro shots of flowers all that impressive.

Photos are pretty good, if you want some suggestions, perhaps you could try and get the pictures a bit brighter? Since you're outside, you should be able to slow down the shutter speed and a let a little bit more light in. My other suggestion would be to move in closer for the tiger lily, you don't need to show the entire flower and it can create an interesting composition. Zooming a bit more on the purple flowers wouldn't hurt. I like the black and green contrast in the background of the purple flowers

The tiger lily is about 5 1/2 feet tall and facing the ground with the sun directly behind it. I didn't think the flash was too harsh but the damn flower ain't goin' nowhere, so I'll give it some more tries Mon. or Tues. (I'm working all this weekend - 36 hours )

I agree about the blandness, but I really liked the contrast and the color.

I've got plenty of subjects to shoot, and I will take criticism to heart!

Thanks!

So people like the cats.

Yeah I love that pic, it was just a snapshot on the spur on the moment. Too bad Rocky (the kitten) is too big now to be that cute.

I like your flower pictures, I frequently use flowers as my subject. Below is a photo that I took with my Nikon D70 this past fourth of July:

I like the contrast that the flash gives to the tiger lily against the sky.

I too have taken some flower pics with my digital rebel

and there are some more here too.

Is this original better or worse than the photoshopped one?
