I am currently typing this on my brand-spanking new PowerBook!

After lusting for this thing for almost a year and a half (and being a member of these forums for over a year), I finally managed to get the money to buy it! (Yes, I've been jumping around the room for the past hour or so)

Of course, I couldn't help but take pictures, knowing the tradition in this (and wanting to immortalise the moment), so here are a few:

All the stuff that the nice TNT man brought me

On the table

First start-up!

And the compulsory screen shot.

Contents of the two wonderful boxes now lying anxiously ripped to pieces on my floor:

1 PowerBook
1 AirPort Express
1 AirPort Express Stereo Connection Kit with Monster Cables
1 iPod Photo, 30 GB
1 iPod Dock
1 Belkin Wireless G USB Adapter (for my friend's computer, so she can share my internet connection - and it works )

PowerBook specs:

 1GB DDR333 SDRAM - 2 SO-DIMMs
 100GB Ultra ATA drive @ 5400rpm
 8x SuperDrive (DVDRW/CD-RW)
 AirPort Extreme Card
 Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
 1.67GHz PowerPC G4
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 (128MB DDR)
 17-inch TFT Display

(Stock 17" model, apart from the added 512 MB RAM)

Yes, I am one happy camper!!!

Congrats. But this should be in the PowerBook forum. You're now officially allowed to post there.

Congratulations!! And welcome to the (sort of) civilized world ... ... aren't they a beauty?

Oh yeah - thanks for the tease. Jerk. </jealous>

P.S. After you had to wait for soooo long to finally get that machine, you most definitely deserve it!
P.P.S. Go download Quicksilver ... NOW!
P.P.P.S. Don't forget to show your grandmother what you got there.

mmmm, new Mac goodness. Happy, happy days. My iMac box is still sat in the corner of my room after I unpacked it in early January, I just dont wanna move that thing down to the cellar! I keep eyeing up the Mac mini for a quick fix of new Mac euphoria. It's like a drug. I am sure they put some chemical in their computers to make an addictive 'new computer smell' that you suffer withdrawals from!

Heh. Well, with all the teasers I've had to endure here for the last ever, I think I'm well within my rights

P.P.S. Go download Quicksilver ... NOW!
I'm going, I'm going!

P.P.P.S. Don't forget to show your grandmother what you got there.
Well, if it wasn't for the fact that she wouldn't be able to tell the old craPC from this smooth baby, and the fact that she's confined to her bed, I surely would. Maybe I'll take a couple of pictures and bring them along and show her next time I'm out there...

(For those who are wondering what on earth my grandmother has to do with this, she's my sponsor, ie. she gave me the money to buy the whole shebang)

*still getting used to some of the keys being in different places, like having to press Alt + 8 for [, instead of Alt Gr + 8, etc.*

Damn, I'm loving this machine!!!

Oh, SWG - it didn't come with Tiger installed 'cause I actually ordered it on the 11th. I am, however, getting the cheap upgrade to Tiger. I actually wanted it this way, 'cause I'd rather have the discs to both Panther and Tiger; double the OS for only a small amount of extra cash.

I'm a lefty too, it's just a matter of changing habits. In a few days, I doubt I'll even think about it anymore (already getting used to the enter key being smaller than on the old one)...

Aaah. Good thinking - brings me directly to the next indispensable (for lefties) Powerbook utility ...

See that useless "Enter" key to the right of your spacebar (between "cmd" and the "left arrow" keys)? Download "uControl" and remap it to a most useful "Option" (Alt) key.

now THAT's useful. Official Tip Of The Day!! I use a tablet for input with my left hand and hate having to cross over for the option key with my right. I never even noticed that Enter key lurking there. Thanks

May it live long and prosper! I've had my 12" Powerbook for 1.5 years now and it works like a charm. It my favorite material possession. I can use it for work, for play, for research, and as an escape when I don't otherwise feel like reading. Ever since getting a laptop my TV watching has decreased 90%.

Uhh, I did?

Isn't the Photo an 'iPod with Click Wheel'? I'm pretty new to iPods (oddly enough, I've seen/used Macs more than I have iPods), so I don't know a thing. What exactly is a Click Wheel, if not just a wheel that you can also click?

(Haven't opened the Dock yet, can still return it if it is incompatible)

The dock that you have is compatible with 20gb and 40gb iPods. There is a separate dock for your iPod. The part number is M9868G/A. That one is compatible with the 30gb iPod. It comes in a black box.

Shoot! Well, gotta get that one changed, then... Maybe they'll do that at the Apple Centre, so I won't have to send it back and wait for a new one to arrive.

Thanks for alerting me to this before I had it opened
