The way they talk that seems very clear. Here is a video with four EU representatives talking about the (less and less) possible Turkish acceptance in the EU.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/default.stm
(on the right column of the page there is a video link marked "Key events from the EU week explained ". Click there for the video)

Now there were three points coming from this discussion that I found ludicrous.. two of them from the UK Labour representative and one from some dark-haired guy (it was difficult to see the titles at 34kbps)

* In response to Jose Manuel Baraoso's claim that Turkish membership would be difficult because of a cultural difference the representative claimed that *clearly* the Christians had gotten to Baroso.

Newsflash to labour: There is a cultural difference between Turkey and mainstream Europe. I don't understand blind uber-liberalism like that. Ignore the issue because you wish it weren't so.. how stupid is that?

* In response to Turkey's demand that Cyprus's occupied territories be given sovreignty as an independant state or else they won't join the EU, the Labor liberal said that *clearly* this is all Cyprus' fault because they democratically voted against unification so concessions have to be made towards Turkey - you know.. it's not their fault that the Cypriots obstinately want the land back that Turkey took from them..

Most curious was the hint from the dark haired man..

* European Jews are alledgedly watching the process of Turkish admission in the EU closely because they think it will reflect how the EU treats Jews.

Whaaaa?! As if they don't know already, having lived here for centuries? Besides, they are an immense minority in Europe. They don't really matter, politically speaking. Strange to bring that up in the discussion, unless this is a race card being played out. And it was. Shame on you dark haired representative!

I can't shake the feeling that the UK is actively trying to tear down the EU with any means possible really. If the EU shows a conservative position in an important issue of its future, the UK becomes more liberal than Berkely. And vice versa.

What was particlarly insulting in this discussion is how they talked about Cyprus - a full EU member - and belittled a completely fair democratic process because it didn't give the uber-liberal result some Labour members apparently desired so now they're talking like Cyprus is some unwanted step child and Turkey is the lost son.

I'd like to go over to Brussels and find the UK representative and smack him with his ugly glasses! Show some respect already!

If for *nothing* else the Cyprus debate shows the cultural difference between mainstream Europe and Turkey. They still don't understand that occupying an EU nation while at the same time applying for EU membership is not going to happen.

Yet the UK Labour liberal is up so far his own ass that he thinks this has something to do with religion.

Idiot.

They don't actually let you into the Labour Party unless you're an idiot.

One thing to note when trying to understand all this is that Labour are basically just a bunch of Stalinists (which includes everything you'd think it would - like being anti-Christian).
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.

The person in the interview was:

☑ an idiot
☑ anti-Christian
☑ blind to the truth
☑ from Labour

He must be very respected in his party.

Oh no no... ...those are the basic requirements. You've got to do something spectacularly stupid to get respect!

I wish I could see the vid then I might be able to tell you who it is (vid link just goes to BBC vid help page).

Oops, thanks for pointing out that the link is bogus. The link is on the main Europe BBC page, on the right side with the headline "Key events from the EU week explained".

I just clicked it now and it isn't working, just leads to a 3 second BBC logo clip, but perhaps it is just temprorarily down?

Yep, I got it.
I've never heard of the bloke. Hardly surprising, since I don't even have a clue who my own MEP is (they keep us in the dark and feed us on... ...you know... ...here). He might even be my MEP, for all I know.

Right...

He's Gary Titley, current leader of the European Parliamentary Labour Party, which is part of the Party of European Socialists, which is part of Socialist International.

That explain things any?

It sure explains his anti-Christian love-fest and his blatant disregard for reality!

The whole Cypress thing just boggles my mind. Granted no one is dying at the moment, but the powers that be seem to make the whole issue appear to be a disagreement over a parking space.

Is the North considered "occupied territory?"
