For you Gen Xers that remember this show, it turns out MTV has finally gotten around to adding some of the the first season to iTunes.

Now unfortunately, it appears they removed some of the music from a few of the skits (most notably Cannonball from the pants skit and they redubbed the entire Barry & Levon skit featuring Sexual Healing), but I think I still may pick up an episode or two (The clown/pirate free your mind is priceless, as well as the amish gang war).

Any other fans in the forums? Seems like the right age group around here.

LOVED the State. The skits that always stand out in my mind are "The Jew, the Italian, and the Red-Head Gay" and "Jesus Joins the Swimteam."

I'll probably have all of these downloaded today. I just wish they'd release the entire show on DVD already.

All glory to the hypnotoad.

I don't think the Jew, the Italian, and the Red-Head gay did as much for me as everyone else. I was always partial to the fast food skit where everyone beats the crap out of each other, though.

Oh yeah, Old Fashioned Guy was always priceless.

Curse the music industry for its crud! Why must good music be removed from good shows!

Money, duh. MTVs too cheap to release the State on DVD let alone ay the licensing fees for music contained therein.

(On a side-note, I really hope all shows that use popular music in their shows today make sure to plan for any future DVD releases so they don't have to renegotiate for the music to be kept)

Porcupine Racetrack and I Smell Like an Animal had me laughing my ass off for a good hour. Damn it I loved that show. The Jesus Joins the Swim Team was f*cking hilarious.

Thread reopened by request. Just remember all posts before this one are from a few years ago, so this plain "Dakar" fellow might not be around to reply anymore.

Well, today they finally released the oft-rumored then inexplicably held back DVD set of the complete series.

Basically, it's a rehash of all the issues the iTunes version of Season 1 had only now including the entire series.

One reviewer seemed to have quite the info (his editorialising aside)
That being said, yes, the music replacement is quite noticeable, as is the frequent and sometimes scene devastating blurring of any and all images that might require MTV to pay something for their display. The insert that comes with the DVD set claims that to include these images and songs would have cost millions and forbade the production of the DVD. I find that hard to believe.

How much is it going to cost to have a picture of Andrew Shue on a goofy homemade collage? Or some obscure album cover from 15 years ago? ... the dubbing is most noticeable (any skit performed in the studio that contains licensed music, does not have a single piece of original sound, whatsoever. It's all dubbed over with new music, generic audience laughter, and re-recorded performances by the original cast members)

I'd like to hear how bad it really is before purchasing the DVD (word is Comedy Central has started reairing the eps very late at night), but if the price gets low enough, I think I'll take the plunge anyway. There has to be enough unaltered skits left over, and I really did love the show.

Why'd you have to dredge up this zombie thread? You should have just created a new thread.

That sucks about the dubbing. I'll still probably buy it.
